Editorial Review for Sally's Waffle Shoppe – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
This modern diner is large and bright, with servers ready with coffee refills. The star here is Sally's Original Golden Crisp Apple Pancake; more like apple pie, it's laden with sliced apples in a cakey dough with plenty of butter and cinnamon. It's a 20- to 30-minute wait and the large version could feed four. Other options: omelettes, pancakes and crepes. Lunch and dinner offer traditional diner fare--roast turkey, burgers, salads and sandwiches.

I ordered apple pancakes over the phone for pickup and I was told 20mins. I went to pick up my order and was yelled at by the 2 ladies at the desk. They claimed I never placed an order..that I must have called a different place. I insisted that I had called and they both started yelling at me in front of a lobby of people. I left because they were causing a scene and asked to speak to a manager from my cell phone...I tried to explain to him that I didn't call the wrong number...I asked him does he have a cell phone and he rudely said no...well I explained you can look up recent calls and see the number dialed and time and it was his location that I called..he started yelling saying there is no way. Nice manager-he was not trying to fix the situation at all. I honestly did call them-someone forgot to place the order. I will never give them business again. The apple pancakes were the only good thing anyway..the rest of the food is a best okay. Kappy's in Niles sells Apple pancakes that are just as good.
Pros: Great Apple Pancakes
Cons: The rest of the menu is not that great and terrible customer service-very rude

OK, maybe I should have ordered the apple pancake. Instead I got "Sally's Fantastic Eggs Benedict" or something like that... what a disappointment. The hollandaise sauce was more of a yellow gravy and the eggs were cooked through. The portion of hash browns that came with it was HUGE, but otherwise unremarkable. The service was quite good - they took our order quickly and kept our coffee full. The atmosphere was... strange. Like I said earlier, I felt as if I had stepped back into 1981... that transitional time between the 1970s disco era and the mid-80s "me generation" greed fest. Everything just seemed dated, but not so dated to be kitschy or nostalgic. Next time I'm in the area, I think I'll try Le Peep in Park Ridge.
Pros: Lousy Food, Dated Atmosphere
Cons: Good Service, Not Crowded
