AVOID VCA Chicago North Animal Hospital
by CLCHM at Citysearch
I brought my 12 year old dog in for an exam. He had an ugly skin growth. I wanted it removed PROVIDING IT DID NOT CAUSE HIS DEATH! I paid for additional testing & X-rays to ascertain his health status. It appeared he was well enough to undergo the surgery. Unfortunately the vet kept him under anesthesia for AN HOUR! He never recovered & died from liver complications caused by the anesthesia 2 days later. Additionally the instructions for after surgery care listed his staples as "dissolvable stitches that would need no further care." When I called to tell them he was not doing well - my calls were returned only AFTER business hours. When I reminded them that I was ADAMANT that I did not want the surgery if it would cause his death - they told me I was aware that there were "risks" involved. A dead dog and a THOUSAND DOLLAR bill. Unless you want your pet to die - I recommend you avoid this clinic AT ALL COST!!! I am still waiting for the vet & person in charge of billing to call me back - 4 wks now.
- Pros: none
- Cons: Expensive procedures leading to death
Really Professional Vet Care

Dr. C saved my dog's life! After her annual shots, we were paying for servicesand Lulu started to keel over. Dr. C scooped her up and put her on I.V. immediately and revived her. turns out, Lulu does not tolerate the Distemper shot. Dr C acted immediately with confidence on how to handle this emergency. You can always find cheaper health care for your animals, but these people are pros. They also spayed her when I got her. Lulu means too much to me to shop for cheap health care for her when I found people who really care and are well educated in their field. Maybe a nail clipping at Pet Smart, but nothing medical. I will NEVER take my dog anywhere else.
- Pros: Real pros in their field
Saved our dog!

Our dog became very sick and we were told by our previous vet to euthanize her after a week in the hospital. We took her to Urban Vet and Dr. C gave us hope and our dog another chance. The staff there was great and were extremely caring. She was in their care for a little over a week before she finally recovered and is now as good as new. They also were willing to work with us on the price so that our dog could receive the best care. A little more expensive but definitely worth it!!!
- Pros: Great caring service.
- Cons: none
