“This is a fun atmosphere and this place has great Sopa de Fideo (noodle soup) and really great margaritas.”
“On a busy night, they will rush you (sometimes with less than what would qualify as tact), but if you are a pleasant group (i.e., you can handle your liquor) they will sometimes offer free shots or drinks at the bar for your inconvenience in relinquishing”
“Who cares about the food - the staff was unacceptable.”
“The service & food were POOR.”
“In addition, two of the people we were with ordered the huge margaritas and when they tried to order their second ones were told they could only have the small ones because they were closing.”
GREAT MARGH.. better than LALO'S, the drinks, food, and service was great, parking is a challange but once inside you forget about it.
Unbelievably poor and inappropriate service. Cesar's does NOT accept credit cards throughout restaurant and management takes unacceptable action when asked for explanation. With ground-level seating full, we're directed to basement. When credit card was given as payment, we're informed cash-only. With no cash, and knowledge the floor above accepted credit, we asked to pay upstairs - even offered to walk it upstairs ourselves. After, what we believed to be management arrived, all seemed resolved - we were assured credit card is acceptable. Thirty minutes later, another man approaches saying, "No drinks for you." He takes our remining drinks/food. We requested an explanation from all 3 employees we spoke with. When noone explained the rationale behind the cash-only rule for half the restaurant, we vocalized a theory-which apparently hit a nerve. Instead of offering another explanation, we were kicked out. With all the wonderful Mexican establishments in Chicago, I will never dine at Cesar's again.
Would not go back if they paid me.. Horrible customer service. Mediocre food not worth the hassle. I highly recommend anywhere else for Mexican. If you like to be treated like you're lucky to be eating your burito, go here. If you prefer to be treated like a valued customer, go elsewhere. I know I will.
I can't drink margaritas anywhere else!. We have been going to Cesar's almost every Friday night for 6 years and NEVER had a bad experience. The margaritas are by far the best anywhere! They do get quite busy and try to make sure that everyone that wants to eat eventually gets a table. Cesar is there most nights and has never been rude about asking anyone to move to the bar, most of the time he offer something for your trouble. Try the Broadway location, it's usually not as crowded.
Caesar is the man. Caesar is the most hospitable host anywhere. I moved from Chicago three years ago and I return every time I'm in town. Have yourself a pitcher of frozen raspberry margarita and never worry again.
When You Finish Your Meal You Are Told To Move. I went to this place and thought everything was great. The big problem was, that when I finished eating I was told to finish my drinks at the bar so I could make room for the other people that were waitng to eat. I have NEVER benn to a place like this and was quite outraged by it. I called the owner Cesar and he said he was not bothered at all by my having to move and that it is a policy there at his place.
Fantastic!. Since moving back to Chicago this has been a staple!! The food is always excellent and the service is outstanding! I always bring my out of town guests here and we are never disappointed. One time on a busy Friday, me and a friend were finishing a drink at our table when the owner came up to us and very nicely said "we have an hour wait, do you mind if I buy you guys a drink and finish it at the bar" We apologized for taking our time and he said he was sorry and proceeded to buy us a drink. I have to say no other place has ever offered us that!!!
Casual Mexican food and margaritas draw an eclectic Lakeview crowd..
In Short
With its bright-pink terra-cotta walls and colorful art, this taqueria offers a taste of Mexico any time of year. Patrons grab tables in the dining room, while margarita lovers toss back pitchers in the separate bar. Menu offerings include tamales, nachos, chicken flautas and mini-burritos: three small, hot rolls served with guacamole and sour cream.
Easy dinner. Chips were good..margaritas were good if you like them really strong. They have the best burrito i've had in Chicago so far, we were seated quickly, service was attentive and the price was very good.
Great Drinks, Good Food. Great margaritas and pretty good food make this a nice repeat stop. Great location, and on numerous occasions we have gotten free tequila shots, can't beat that!
