HIDDEN MEXICAN FARE TREASURE. Moving to Chicago from Dallas Texas, I was happily surprised to find this Mexican restaurant. First, I like small and charming vs. large and noisy. El Neuvo is small and charming. The food has consistently been good, even great. I like the seafood dishes, the salsa, service and the atmosphere. Many patrons do not know that the owner, Maria, has painted majority of the art in the restaurant, which truly gives the place charm. Really nice paintings! This place gives great value for what you receive. The service is top-notch. Very attentive service staff and they accommodate special requests without a blink. You will not be disappointed. NOTE: in the summer months El Nuevo has a quaint patio in the back where you can sit all day, never be noticed, and enjoy the day away! GO THERE!
Fabulous, Fresh, Authentic Mexican Food. I have visited El Nuevo Mexicano on many occasions, and find it to be one of the best finds in the city. They serve high-quality dishes at incredibly reasonable prices consistently. I have never been disappointed from their delicious and generous bowls of soup, to the unbelievable Chipotle Salmon, Civeche, Chicken wrap, and more. The atmosphere is charming and cozy. A small but inviting restaurant you have to try if you want to walk away feeling like you just found a little hidden treasure right here in the heart of Lincoln Park/Lakeview.
Favorite Lakeview Mexican Place. This is one of my favorite "go to" restaurants on a Saturday night. The place has changed quite a bit over the last 3 or 4 years, with the addition of the bar, a slightly more trendy atmosphere (it's still a casual place though, make no mistake), and a couple of menu overhauls (there seems to be more adventurous fare now). Through it all, the service remains solid and the food awesome. While the margaritas may not be on par with the huge ones at the two Cesar's locations (both of which are within walking distance), the food is FAR better...no contest. They also won't make you feel rushed like Cesar's tends to. During the summer, the outdoor patio in the back is great, and one of the few places in the neighborhood where you can eat outside but be away from the street.
Never a disappointment. This is my husbands favorite place to eat. They have some really unique items on their menu that have never disappointed adventurous eaters we've gone with. I stick by the steak fajitas and the great margaritas. On weekends it can get a bit crowded, but they renovated and put in a bar to sit at so you don't mind the wait.
Best Value for your money.
Been here several time. Each time we have prompt (but not rushed) service, and the food is delicious. By far the best authentic mexican considering their lower than average prices.
During the summer they have an outdoor patio (althought you would never know from the storefront). Margaritas are also quite strong and tasty!
Great service, authentic taste. I have been there 4 times and will recommend it to anyone. The service has always been prompt and friendly. It has a nice ambience, very clean, and offers many top shelf liquors. The pricing is very fair, and I feel like I get my money's worth in addition to my belly full.
Bueno. This place is fantastic: the food, the atmosphere, the outdoor patio, the service. The margaritas are a little so-so, but overall this place is absolutely everything that a great Mexican place should be.
Delicious and not chainy...unlike Ceasar's. This place was really good with some authentic dishes. It was a decent price and they had an excellent outdoor seating in the back. They had lots of different drinks to try and the food was great. I went there on a date and it was great. Definitely excellent mexican food with authentic feeling, unlike some of those chains out there.
Service for a King!. What a warm atmosphere, it felt like each table had it's own private room. Great place for romance! The service here is second to none, felt like we were royalty. Our meal was served quickly and looked like there was some serious thought put into presentation. For the service, the price and the location, this place is definately a find! Bring your sweetheart here!
delicious. The atmosphere is romantically light with great latin tunes playing. They have excellent tortlla chips and spicy salsa that is brought when you sit down. The drink menu is very tropical and to die for coconut drinks. Every bit of the food melts in your mouth.
