One of the Best Ethnic Restaurants in Chicago. After being greeted by the ebbulient owner we were escorted to our seats by a charming hostess, properly attired with eastern european blond bobbed hair and a white ethnic blouse. An excellent accordionist serenaded us at our table as we enjoyed wonderful eggplant and mamiliga polenta appetizers that reminded my wife of dishes her Romanian grandmother made many years ago. We enjoyed a bottle of very inexpensive but quite drinkable Romanian Merlot wine. We had Chicken snittzel for the main course and a magnificent apple strudel for desert. Do not miss this great restaurant.
Best ethnic food in the city! Great service and hospitality. Well we went to the location listed on this site and found that an Irish bar now stands in it's place... the new location is called Continental Cafe and is located at 3661 N Elston Ave. You must go here. This place is wonderful. Beautiful restaurant. Staff was very friendly. Owner personally visited our table multiple times and recommended dishes for us. You must try the Mamaliga- polenta with sour cream and feta. I am Italian and have never enjoyed polenta as much. We also tried the Mititei- the skinless sausages. Delicious. Between the 3 of us we had the goulash (better than any Hungarian version I had tried), stuffed cabbage (wonderful!), and the smoked sausage with beans. Everything was delicious, excellent portions, and wonderfully presented. I have been recommending this place to everyone.
great surprize. found on accident, great food and service. i'm glad my car broke down a block from them, I'll be back and tell my friends.
trash!. Coming from Romania, I can honestly say that this place would be described as 'trash' by any decent Romanian person. The atmosphere is totally bogus in comparison with that in a typical Romanian setting. Mind you, Romanians are not in the habit of sucking alcohol out of rubber tubes one after the other. Nor do they waste houseware by smashing it off the bar stool. The service was bad - waitresses rude, defying the Romanian hospitality, the host was abnoxious, the food did not resemble the traditional menu, the soup was disgussting, and the dessert was 'not available'.
BUTTS AND BRAINS. ITS THE BEST RESTAURANT!!!!!1 if you go there on fridays or saturdays you get the whole experance. It's a wonderful restaruant and I defintilty reccomend it. p.s. butts and brains has nothing to do with this restaurant. creative huh?
Delicious. Good Service.. I was visiting Chicago and wanted something a little different from cuisines I always eat (American, Asian, Mexican, Italian) and saw this place on the street. The appetizers mamaliga and mititei were very good and the specials (Moussaka and a filled steak) were delicious as well. Everything was served quickly and the waitress was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
