Battered wood wainscoting and a dedicated local crowd are hallmarks of this 70-plus year old Lakeview bar.
OK food but lousy service
by suelino
In summary, bad Service, bad food. The dining area was freezing, the server unhelpful and impatient, the food wasn't too bad but the level of service was terrible.
So so bar

I've been to neighborhood taps throughout the city, and Jakes just doesn't measure up. The staff is slow. Hard to get their attention if you are not a regular. You have to wonder if they are on anything. They play the same tunes over and over. No food served. Over priced cigs. They ring a bell for good tips. Very clique-ie. Not at all a friendly environment. Would not go there again. There are too many great places in Chicago to waste time on this place.
- Cons: small, smokey
$2 Schlitz in Lake View!!!!!!
by tsloan15
If you are as sick of the Lake View yuppie scene as I am, and want to get away, Jake's is the place to go. They have the best selection, and price range, of beer. The bartenders are the best around, and the mood is whatever you want it to be. On any night you can sit at the bar, order a pizza, and drink $2 cans of Schlitz! It's like being at home, but you're getting waited on. The music selections in the juke box will satisfy anyone. If you haven't experienced Jake's Pub you're missing out on one of this city's hidden treasures.
- Pros: music, atmosphere, staff
- Cons: parking

The Extras:
This bar is very dog friendly and is a favorite among local dog owners come the weekend.
Know Before You Go:
Dozens of beers can be found on handwritten chalkboard lists, like Hennepin and Duvel, including a rotating list of seasonal brews from smaller producers. For good measure, Old Style is available on tap.
