Editorial Review for Sheffield's Beer and Wine Garden – by Sarah Preston
The Scene
A huge antique bar dominates the main room, with cozy, elevated seating nooks along a couple of walls. Two more rooms--one with another bar and a fireplace, the other with a pool table--follow in maze-like fashion. The beer garden is big and comfortable, with lots of seating and ivy-covered walls; it's packed on nice afternoons.
The Draw
Sheffield's takes beer seriously, in a humorous kind of way; among the many specials is the Bad Beer of the Month. Included in the 80 beers generally offered are some of the bar's own brews, including a flavorful stout with a lighter-than-usual body. The laid-back feel extends to the down-to-earth, young professional clientele. It's crowded around Cubs games, but don't let that deter you from visiting other times; this corner bar is perfect for cocktails after work, before or after a casual date, or whenever you and your friends feel like kicking back.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoOn weekday afternoons when the weather is nice, expect the patio to fill by 6pm or 7pm. But there's a constant ebb and flow, so you may not have to wait long to score an outside seat.
Where to SitSee an outdoor table with occupants, but some space to spare? More than likely, they'll be happy to scooch over and share, if asked politely.
When to GoHit the jackpot every afternoon with 4 dollar lunch specials from 11:30am-6pm in the backroom.

My friend and I were both first-timers to Sheffield's after work on a random weekday. We had some drinks, ordered some food - my burger and fries were both super tasty, especially for bar food! - and bottom line, it was a great little hangout. It was a bit of a quiet night, but you could tell the place gets rockin'. The staff was very nice, guys and girls alike. We both left saying we'll be back!
Pros: Friendly staff, unpretentious atmosphere, good food
Cons: It was cold so we couldn't experience the patio...not that that's a true "con" :)

This place is by far one of the top 3 best beer bars in the City of Chicago. Hands down. Awesome, friendly staff, great food, plenty of room, and the Beer...what else. Staff is very knowledgable and helpful when picking out new beers. I love the fact that you can get a great tasting beer for the same price as a Miller Lite, yet some people will still drink the Lite. Is it the ads? I am out--see you at Sheffield's!
Pros: Beer. Staff. Year-round Garden. Red line access.
Cons: No more Michelle or Jen Ball.
