Editorial Review for Southport Lanes & Billiards – by J.P. Anderson
The Scene
Originally a Schlitz house built in 1922, Southport Lanes is a bar and grill with four bowling alleys (where pin boys still do the setting) and a billiard room with six sleek, regulation-size tables. Original stained-glass windows grace the main bar and its high-backed wood booths and tables. On weekends, the crowds of preppy singles in their 20s and early 30s extend out the door, several layers of people crowding the bar shouting for another drink, or having a hollered conversation over the too-loud music.
The Draw
A jukebox is stocked with Dave Matthews Band, the Grateful Dead and whatever else the kids are listening to these days. The full bar can handle mainstream cocktails, but draft and bottled beer are most popular. Straightforward American food is served in huge portions--including cheddar fries and delicious turkey and chicken Caesar sandwiches.

Insider Tips
When to GoAvoid weekends, unless you dig that sardine-in-a-can feeling.
The ExtrasThrowing a big party? The four-lane bowling room is available for rental, and also features a coin-operated pool table and a buffet area.

We had to come here because our usual pool joint was booked and what a pleasant surprise. The tables are well maintained. The cues are good enough. The pool room is AMAZING with super high ceilings, large windows that open up for a great breeze on a warm night, and funky old chandeliers. Lots of people but not crowned and the price was right on the money. We will definitely start coming here more often.
Pros: Fantastic space for shooting pool
Cons: None that I noticed

Have a few beers and shoot pool on a full size table not a coin operated mini table. After than bowl on the same alley your dad did (if he went to Lane)
