Real Ethnic Food. Love the fact that a place in Chicago is serving such ethnic Asian/Indian cuisine for such a great price! Really underestimated this place, but am genuinely pleased with the selection and prices!
Its one to Like. Its one of those places that just seems welcoming from the start. When first finding out about them, I even knew that things were in good and and seemed the way a good restaurant should be. Staff is pleasant, and menu is a good start.…
Pretty place, slightly above average food.
We went on a Wednesday night when the place was virtually empty, so perhaps this explains why our experience with the staff was different than the previous reviewers' experiences, but I have to say,
service at Tiffin was outstanding, among the best I've ever experienced in an Indian restaurant. I don't think our water glasses ever dipped below half empty.
The ambiance was spot-on. Dark wood, dim lights, white tablecloths--it's actually almost romantic in atmosphere. We definitely didn't have an issue with the decor.
The food was decent. Papadum was decent and the naan was amazing--so puffy, in a good way. The rice was the usual plain, boring stuff everyone charges extra for these days. For entrees, I got the chicken makahni and my boyfriend got the chicken tikka masala. I didn't love the makahni--the chicken was excellently cooked, very moist, but the sauce was way too thin. It barely stayed on the spoon for serving. In terms of flavors and spices, I asked for medium, but what I got was actually quite bland. Heat aside, the flavors were good. My boyfriend liked the tikka masala, but had the same sauce consistency issue as I did.
The portions weren't huge, which was disappointing, since we usually have half our entrees left over for lunch the next day, and at Tiffin, my boyfriend only had sauce left and I had maybe a quarter of the dish left--and we weren't outrageously hungry that night or anything.
Overall, I'd give this place another shot, definitely.…
Outstanding food, great ambiance. This was a fantastic restaurant. The service was amazing, the food exceptional, the entire atmosphere was calm and sophisticated. I look forward to going back
DON'T GO HERE. This is the worst Indian Restaurant I ever dined in. My friend?s girl friend's purse was stolen by an employee or patron and the owners kept on insisting that she did not bring her purse with while the surveillance proved otherwise. Bad food, worst experience and servers who do not speak English. DON?T dine here. FYI Udipi Restaurant is owned by the owners of Tiffin.…
