Editorial Review for Spot 6 – by John Dugan
The Scene
Opened in spring 2003, Spot 6 is done in an eye-popping orange that ensures it won't be confused with typical Wrigleyville sports pubs. Couches, walls, stools--even the pool table--are all in the alerting color. There are some modern lounge touches, like flowers mounted on the walls, but nothing fancy. A DJ booth is smack up against the club's dance floor. You can watch the action from a seat at the bar in the back; downstairs, there's a less finished room for private parties.
The Draw
Thursday's salsa night sizzles with activity, drawing an upbeat Latino crowd. Other nights, the club pumps up the house jams. Bartenders serve cold Negro Modelos and pour some big cocktails, including the spot's signature drink, which must be seen to be believed: The Flaming Cucaracha is a mysterious concoction lit on fire and sipped through a straw.

In the two times I have been to Spot 6, I can't tell you how rude the service was. Maybe the bartender was having a really bad day, TWICE, but, come on!? I work in service, and was appalled by the service I received. However the barback/waitress was great. The 1st time I went there(I know this is a bar and maybe the service won't be all that great, and I have worked in bars), but they had NO limes for a drink and he was not happy that I asked for lime juice in that case. The bartender didn't smile once and almost seemed as though I were troubling him for a drink. The second and third time I went up to the bar that night...same thing. The 2nd time I went there, I was really embarrassed when I took people there and the same bartender sat at the end of the bar eating his dinner. We were the only people in the bar, and 20 minutes later he came over to serve us. He seemed as though we were taking time out of his day to do something that he didn't want to be doing. The barback/waitress however did serve us waters til the bartender decided to come over to us to see if we would like anything to drink. We wanted to leave..but, we couldn't...the group I was with had made a point to go there to get a drink and meet up with other people..but, couldn't leave til all our party showed up. It was a LONG hour. REALLY long. I am shocked that someone said good service below. Maybe they went on a good night when someone else was working?!
Pros: Great location in lakeview
Cons: Awful staff, bad service

Although Spot 6 is a very small, intimate lounge, I *always* have a blast there. The service is incredible - they are so good to their customers. Drinks are great, and the crowd is great on fridays and saturdays. The just need to play more hip-hop!
