Completely Unethical. Gregg asked me to leave a review on City Search & Yelp, so here it goes. July '10, using City Search, I found Gregg and brought to him my original wedding set; platinum, excellent 1.06 ct center round stone with numerous diamond baguettes. I wanted to do an even exchange for a new right hand ring since I was going through a divorce. While I waited for Gregg to make a new ring, he removed my center stone and sold it within 2 days.

After 12 weeks and a litany of excuses including trying to deal with his "guy in NYC", health concerns, family problems, holidays, etc Gregg finally delivered a "custom" chunkier, white gold ring with a far inferior, darker, smaller center stone surrounded by a ton of side stones.. Nothing like what I wanted and he still hasn't delivered any sort of appraisal, which I believe he's holding hostage.  

  Feeling completely uneasy and dissatisfied, I took Gregg's ring to several jewelers in the Chicago area who have analyzed his stone and told me that it doesn't even qualify as a cushion cut because the size is too small. A couple jewelers then showed me the setting he used from a catalog. They said if this was supposed to be an even trade, that Gregg Helfer really made out and totally scammed me. All of the jewelers knew Gregg, none of them were surprised. So, buyer beware. My perfectly excellent diamond is on someone else's hand and I'm left with a ring that I detest and an impending lawsuit.

Sincere Thanks. Thank you Gregg for giving us the best engagement ring experience we could have asked for. You were able to work with our budget and me the ring of my dreams. You made me believe I was worthy of wearing something this beautiful(and told me my fingers weren't chubby-thanks!). Eric proposed to me in July with a surprise Mariachi serenade. I wish I could post the photos here! I've been getting endless compliments on my ring! We will never forget how great you were to us, and hopefully we can get you some more business in the future! I can't wait to get the wedding bands. I am no a diamond loving girl.

Going back for more.... Many years ago, my fiancée and I went to Gregg's to pick out her engagement ring. While starting utterly confused about diamonds and the entire process, Gregg took the time to pre-educate me over the phone so he could prepare an appropriate set of choices for when we came in.

When we went in to his office together he had beautiful stones (in my price range) from which my fiancée and I picked one out while Gregg continued to explain the diamond process and showed great patience with our indecision. We left feeling fantastic that we truly understood what we were buying and picked up the gorgeous ring in a few days. She LOVED it!

A year later we were back getting wedding bands and part 2 of her wedding ring. Again, we completely satisfied with the beautiful work, the pricing and the detail without any selling pressure.

It is now a big anniversary and I am going back to Gregg's to finally pick out the final piece to a custom creation Gregg had dreamed up many years ago when we first talked about her engagement ring. My wife deserves the best and Gregg is the best.

Gregg is an enabler to help you through the process which can be scary for the first time buyer. He is well respected in the field (turns out my neighbor works on jeweler’s row and knows him.) His pricing is more than fair. I am sure we walked out with a better stone at a better price then 95% of my friends (before I started sending them all to him.) He is patient, creative and helpful in all aspects of the process.

I know this all may sound too good to be true but my advice to anyone about to buy diamond (or other) jewelry is to go talk to Gregg first. You will find out for yourselves what a pleasure it is to do business with him.

Everything I was looking for in a jeweler experience. I walked in knowing almost nothing about diamonds and engagement rings. Gregg educated me, listened to what I wanted, never tried to up sell me, gave me excellent ideas where I needed a little guidance, and delivered the most beautiful, unique engagement ring I have ever seen, by the date promised. His prices were very competitive. And most importantly, she loved the ring.

Gregg is that seemingly rare breed of business man that is interested in your repeat business and your recommendations to friends. And as a result, willing to make the complete interaction pleasant, and deliver more than what you are asking for.

Previously, I've never felt absolutely trusting in a jeweler. Now I would only go to and recommend Gregg.

Great experience with Gregg. I wanted to post a review of how everything went with my experience at Gregg Helfer Ltd-Private Jeweler. Well,she loved the new engagement ring and the refinishing/resizing of the other band. Thanks again for the rush job and meeting the Christmas deadline. We'll definitely recommend you to others!

Perfect. We had a perfect experience buying our wedding rings over the internet at Gregg Helfer Jewelers. We were delighted to get such high quality rings at a competitive price. Thank you for everthing. Merry Christmas and happy holidays! I think the ring is absolutely beautiful and Sarah (my new fiance) certainly agrees. We're certainly quite happy with it.

I was a little disappointed that the ring was not engraved as I had requested. However, I realize that I was rushing you to get the ring out here, so it's certainly understandable. I figure I can make an appointment to bring it back in once I'm back in Chicago. Thank you for everything.

Exceptional. We were looking for something very special to go with my fiances engagement ring. I looked everywhere but no one could show me what I was looking for. Sitting with Gregg for 10 minutes and he new exactly what I needed..his jewelry intuition is incredible. The eternity band is gorgeous,and the quality of the diamonds is perfect for us. This same ring was selling online alot more than what I paid Gregg for it. Service and turnaround time are great, and I am a very pleased customer
