In Short
Students and downtown workers waiting for the 66 bus duck into this quirky, atomic-age coffeehouse for a quick caffeine fix, while local bohemians and laptoppers settle into booths and stay a while. High-octane coffee and espresso drinks get the crowd wired for conversation or homework; bagged or loose teas supply a milder buzz. Bagels, cold sandwiches and warm focaccia are made to order, with your choice of spreads, sauces, veggies and meats (even tofu turkey). Regulars swear by the Atomix chili, vegan Atomix burger, and boutique sugar-rush sodas like Bubble-Up and Ginseng Rush.

best coffee ever! (it will definitely put a spring in your step) I get so excited when I am able to order my first iced coffee to celebrate spring! ....low on acidity and high in flavor

Atomix's tagline is the future of coffee, which, if were true, would be odd but not unpleasant. The staff are eccentric, but never rude or slow. The food choices are classy and delicious, well beyond diner-grade and largely vegetarian. Many regulars idle here for hours - some will impose, particularly if they hear you talking philosophy or see you puzzling over a crossword - but they're nothing to fear. They're simply antsy from the strong, strong joe. PROS: Powerful coffee, good food, unusual clientele CONS: Higher-than-cheap prices, unusual clientele

Steve Dolinsky gives this establishment one spoon and one scraping tool to get the stuck muck and gook off the bottom of the coffee cup.
