Editorial Review for Silver Seafood Restaurant – by Valerie Moloney
The Scene
A grey facade and creaky front door signal that this restaurant has seen better days, but the steady foot traffic proves local love. "Banquet"-style tables lose their intended formality when covered in layers of plastic liners, but no matter, eating with chopsticks can get messy. The wide space is equipped with a full bar and an electronic disco ball fitted into the ceiling, along with tank filled with live lobsters.
The Food
The Tolstoy-sized menu wanders into every flavor and texture it can, but seafood is the main attraction. Little flecks of salted fish mingle with bits of chicken, scallions and ginger for a welcome twist on fried rice, which arrives more golden than brown, a welcome departure for the soy sauce-soaked versions elsewhere. Baby bok choy--steamed to a perfect kelly green--encircles plump shrimp sauteed with carrots and soft straw mushrooms. Twice-cooked pork oozes sweet juice.
Hits
Servers are extremely friendly and quick to bring out orders and replenish drinks.
Misses
Diners don't receive one menu, but two, both packed with a mind-spinning list of exotic dishes. Unless you're a regular, just ordering could be daunting.
