Editorial Review for Full Shilling Public House – by Maura York

In Short
The former red- and blue-lit club has given way to a homey Irish pub concept with lots of wood, brick and bric-a-brac. The look concedes only slightly to the neighborhood: Cubs mementos are integrated into the decor, as are several big-screen TVs. An Internet jukebox, an eclectic and always-available food menu featuring burgers to Irish standards and ambitious entrees, and excellent daily food and drink specials sweeten the pot.

This is flat out just a cool bar. The wait staff is generally excellent, the food is good, and it just has a cool atmosphere to it (lots of brick, not too bright or dark, good layout, etc). As another reviewer said, its a great place to watch sports, especially football. Some of the nightly meal/drink specials are good enough that you're constantly reminded to wonder why you don't eat here 3 times a week. Get a table in the afternoon, and you may well find yourself still there many hours later. It is often compared to the nearby and slightly newer Casey Moran's (possibly just due to both being newer bars), but Full Shilling is not quite as upscale, feels more relaxed, and seems to attract a more diverse crowd. It's every bit as welcome an addition to the Wrigleyville bar scene.

Pros: Good atmosphere, good service, good food

Cons: Can get crowded, and doesn't have much standing space

Sunday nights they have: $0.25 wings (and they're good wings) $1 burgers (not bad themselves) $1 domestic beers (not bad for knocking a few down during a game, though the cups are small) Great atmosphere and good deals for watching football games. Only downside is that it gets crowded and if you don't get there early you have to stand. Oh, and when it's crowded the wait staff doesn't seem to be in a big hurry to get to everyone. However, they're all very friendly, perhaps just understaffed. The place isn't too much of a dive-bar and not too much of a snobby joint like some bars in the area.

Pros: Price, location, friendly staff

Cons: a little understaffed
