Basic Italian cuisine in a comfortable, airy Evanston setting..
In Short
Evanston diners looking for casual Italian fare will feel at home in this restaurant--a more sophisticated alternative to next door's student hangout, Dave's Italian Kitchen. Stone floors, bold red and blue wall signage, and a long welcoming bar attract after-work cocktailers and couples on dates. A blazing wood-fired oven cooks the recommended thin-crust pizzas. Pasta choices include fettucine with wild mushrooms, and gnocchi with prosciutto, peas and light cream sauce.

pizza.
Gio makes good thin pizza's and serves a well thought out selection of wines, good quality at reasonable prices. Sit at the bar, order a pizza or two, drink a glass of wine or two, good way to spend an hour or two.

Excellent pasta and wine.
Gio offers a great menu with a huge selection of wines. I recommend the Zanella or the Alex thin crust pizza made in the wood burning oven. The fettucine with porcini sauce is the best pasta dish if you love mushrooms. I highly recommend Gio!
