Editorial Review for The Uptown Lounge – by Karla Zimmerman
The Scene
This prototypical lounge on a gritty Uptown stretch offers an open but intimate space with artwork-dotted walls, flickering candlelight and blond hardwood floors. The bar is tucked against the east wall, contemporary high-backed couches line the perimeter, and low tables with ottoman-style seats fleck the middle. Twenty- and 30-somethings in fashionable footwear and leather coats converse over bottled beers, Effen martinis and peach schnapps concoctions, or watch sports on two flat-screen TVs. A few holdovers from the Saxony (the site's former dive incarnation) slump bar-side.
The Draw
Situated between the Riviera Theater and the Aragon Ballroom, Uptown Lounge is prime for concertgoers. The Doobie Brothers, Pearl Jam and funk-jazz are piped in at a conversation-friendly level. Gauzy light and the sexy red walls encourage snuggling. The 4am license and reasonably priced beers attract a late-night pack.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThe bar doesn't have draft beer or a bottled beer menu--you'll have to peer over the bartender's shoulder into the glass case behind to pick your poison.
When to GoCrowds gather before and after concerts at the nearby venues; plan accordingly. If plenty of company is your thing, Sunday night karaoke is also pretty popular.
