The Scene – Chartreuse walls, graceful palm plants and woven mats on tabletops and floor add a note of serenity to this lively, contemporary space. A long banquette hugs the far wall; parallel banquettes, each with two or three tables, angle into the center of the room. Attentive servers help with menu and wine suggestions. – – The Food – The mostly vegetarian menu, built around seasonal ingredients, is divided into three sections, moving from lighter to heavier dishes. Delectable first courses include chilled golden beets, sliced, stacked and complemented by creamy…
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- While the menu is primarily vegetarian, there are some chicken and fish dishes included, though no red meat is served.
- Save Money:
- Reasonably priced smaller portions allow for experimentation: A couple will generally order five to seven dishes between them.

Amazing Brunch
by miss_delicious at Citysearch
Wow, this was one of the best brunches I've ever had. While I am not a vegetarian, I prefer the veggies to the meat and wanted to entertain a vegetarian friend who was in town for the weekend. We were not disappointed.
We got to the restaurant at 10:15 on a Sunday morning, 15 minutes prior to their opening. I may be an early bird but 10:30 seems kind of late time to open. Regardless, we were seated and served almost immediately. I had expected to wait a long time for my food but the kitchen and wait staff was quickly attentive to everyone's orders.
The waiter brought us our drinks and complimentary madeline cookies with a side of rhubarb preserves and cinnamon butter. It was a delicious way to start my day. I could have eaten a dozen of them but I'm glad I didn't because my entree was incredible.
My friend ordered the eggs benedict and I ordered the grits with greens, mushrooms and poached eggs. I can't describe how wonderful my dish was. The eggs were poached perfectly; the greens and mushrooms fresh and al dente; the polenta rich and creamy. It was amazing.
I very highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a delicious and easy brunch.
- Pros: Amazing food, quick service
- Cons: Opens later than most brunch restaurants
A great vegetarian restaurant

I was in Chicago to see some music, but I was sick as a dog, barely able to taste anything and hopped up on day-quil. Still, Green Zebra tasted wonderful, and left me and my meat-eating buddy, completely satisfied.
I had the 5-course tasting menu for just $55. Serious!
The dishes were classic in style: greens, consomme, risotto, crepes, and dessert. Simple, done well.
I will definitely eat here every time I am in Chicago. One of the country's best vegetarian restaurants.
- Pros: Satisfying, excellent execution
- Cons: I don't live in Chicago

I had never been to a vegetarian restaurant before so I had no idea what to expect... despite the fact that I was a vegetarian for 9 years. I guess I was used to being a vegetarian in a carnivore's world. I went here for my birthday and it was fantastic. The food was great and the waiter took the time to explain what everything was as I was used to eating pasta and fruit back in my veggie days. We had this egg thing, I have no idea what it was but I kinda crave it now and then. I would definitely go back again adn I recommend it to anyone
- Pros: Can make even the biggest meat lovers go veggie
- Cons: Prices are a bit high
You Must Go Try!

Our waitress was very kind, knowledgable of the wines and all the dishes and was able to explain the different ingredients in one of my dishes. I found the wine to be very good even though I'm not one who likes to drink a lot. I had the 3 course plan and then had the poached pears for dessert. I gotta say that was the best dessert I've had in a long time. Until I got home and checked the restaurant out, I never would have known it was vegetarian, so being a vegetarian was definitely a perk. Even if your not a vegetarian, there is something that you'll find on the menu that you like and if you don't, well then your taste buds need a little changing. I highly recommend trying at least once. It can be expensive so make a sporadic occassion.
- Pros: ambiance, decor, lighting, dessert, service
- Cons: parking
