Horribly Disappointing. As way of introduction, I am a foodie who happens to work as a consultants, which allows me to dine at some of the best restaurants in the country 100-150x/year. I've been looking forward to going to Green Zebra since it opened, and have had many reservations over the years which have fallen through. Well, I now live a few blocks from the restaurant, so I was extremely excited when my wife booked this for my birthday. Sadly, this was the only bright spot of our dining experience.

Our waitress didn't offer us a pre-dinner drink and we had to hunt her down to get one, yet they still brought our 1st course while we were enjoying our martinis - even though we had asked for the pairing. The wine pairing is $35, so $70 for the two of us, which is about $15 greater than about 80% of the wines on the menu. $35 is still a good deal, unless all you are poured is about 2 oz for each of the 5 glasses. Even 2oz isn't too bad, unless they don't bring the food until15-30 minutes after they've poured your glass of win. The wine was gone for 3 of our 5 courses prior to receiving our food (we would have drank water, but that was empty as well), and we were never offered an additional pouring of wine.

They even brought my birthday dessert while my wife was away in the bathroom. At least the patrons around me were kind enough to sing.

So, my overall opinion. Service and timing SUCKED. I have experienced all sorts of service, but this was in a league of its own. Not to be cruel, but our waitress also had horrible, gum-disease scented breath, which is the last thing you want to catch whiff of prior to dining at an upper class restaurant. As for the food, it was good but not necessarily memorable. If you're a vegetarian looking for a nice restaurant, the you may want to try Green Zebra. If you're looking for an upscale dining experience, then I'd go to one of the other 100 better restaurants in the city.

So good we went twice in one week!. Green Zebra is amazing -- delicious, gourmet, vegetarian food. No Boca burgers here, each dish is fresh, innovative, beautifully presented, and phenomenal. The chef lets each ingredient speak for itself -- this is a place to enjoy the taste of food, not to have huge portions that you scarf down. The menu changes seasonally, I think, which is awesome. My only complaint is that the tables are small and close together.

Amazing Food and Presentation. The choices were excellent and 3 of us went and all ordered different things. Everyone raved and my parents are foodies so haveing them praise it so highly even impressed me. Believe the waiter when he/she says that the plates are small and order atleast 3 things but they will all be outstandingly great! I particulalry loved the mushroom soup and lentil dish at the bottom of the menu. Service was good although they seemed a little rushed to take our plates. Good choices of drinks and great sake.

Great "gourmet" for vegetarians. The food is great, even if you are not vegetarian. The only thing I did not like is that the tables are too close to each other. I could hear the conversations on both sides of me. Not a good date place. Expect to pay a lot, and I would also save room for dessert somewhere else.

no need to be a vegetarian to eat here. The food won't let you miss meat. Vegetables are chosen for their texture and combination of tastes. The food is just simply amazing. Service is likewise. If you want to look at vegetarianism in a new light, maybe you'll understand why some people really do just love their veggies. I appreciate the chef's efforts and hope one day Houston, TX has a restaurant like this one day. Even meat lovers will enjoy this.

The BEST vegetarian restaurant I've ever eaten at. My boyfriend and I came to Chicago from Austin, TX in December of 2005 for vacation. While there we dined at several restaurants. When we arrived at the Green Zebra we were informed that reservations are pretty much required, but they would do their best to seat us promptly. In no longer than 5 minutes we were seated. The entire staff was friendly and professional. The food was the kind that you have to close your eyes and take in every little morsel of flavor because it is so good. I enjoy eating as healthy as I can, and this place combines healthy cuisine with full on flavor. Austin is known for an abundance of vegetarian restaurants yet there is not one that could even compare to the Green Zebra!

Rude and snooty. This was a big disappointment. The staff were rude and snooty from the moment we walked in, and although the dishes had some visual appeal, most were bland and uninteresting.

For these prices, this is not the "real thing"

Out of this world.... Green Zebra's food was out of this world! There were so many tasty and beautiful dishes that my vegetarian brain was absolutely overloaded. We really had a difficult time deciding which plates to order. Our server was amazingly well-versed in each plate and made wonderful recommendations easing our indecisiveness. They were creative with the seating making it not seem as cramped as it could be. We did not feel like we were on top of the next table and could easily carry on a conversation unlike the similarly sized Blackbird. We cant wait to go back!

Excellent, Memorable dishes!. Our dining experience at Green Zebra was fabulous! Each of the 5 dishes we ordered (between two people) were so flavorful and quite different! The lentil cakes, morel galette, and fresh mozarella/moroccan/arugula salad stood out. Dessert was phenomenal...the cream puffs are highly recommended. Service was very friendly, but at times we were "forgotten" and had to wait 10 minutes for our coffee, while out desserts sat infront of our faces. All in all...excellent and I would DEFINITELY return!

Very Good Vegetarian Restaurant!!. I saw this place on a show call 190 North and decided to try it. I had the inside out spring rolls, the sweet potato dumpings which was excellent and I had the Galette for the main course. The apple beignets are also very good. The service is good. They also have some meat on the menu for non-vegetarians.
