Neighborhoods: West Side, Pilsen (Lower West Side), Pilsen
Skylark is one of those favorite dive bars I go to when I just so happen to be driving by. Then I stop in and think about driving by all the time. Dirty but awesome.
Stay Out of My Bar – As far as Skylark goes there are a bunch of different characters, a wide variety of music, and good tasting beer, with servers who know what they're serving. The one creepy uncle was fun at first, but when he told me I had a nice d*ck, I was apprehensive. Bottom line: slightly tangy, but smooth finish.
*This goes out to the other reviewer(s). Keep your propoganda away from here! If you want to go to a "Trendy" bar or make subjective comments, then hang out in Wrigley or Wicker. You drive by this neighborhood and it gives you the right to spout of asinine comments about the local economic caste? Where were you 10 years ago?
Tator tots with 3 dipping sauce – I like the photo booth. The place gets funny, silly . One night everyone was dancing through last call and there was a guy in cow suit moonwalking. Ah, the Skylark. good times.
Excuse me for not being an "artist." – Been going here for a while and always loved it. The servers were always very courteous, and the crowd was always cool and very approachable. I think we can all agree Pilsen is changing, some say for the better, but I could argue that. With the higher property taxes and condos, Pilsen is attracting some trendsetters who I would rather avoid.
I agree with the review before mine; now when walking in this bar, it feels like if you're not part of the artist community, you're not welcome. Unfortunately, this nice little hidden away bar has turned into another North Side knockoff. Not the best of times anymore.
Pilsen's version of trendy – I'm from the area and this place was fun for a while, but now it's becoming very strange. The new flight of residents seem to have an attitude with patrons that are not artsy or uber trendy.
The bartenders have a good attitude and the service is great.
Friendly corner bar in Pilsen draws a local crowd with cheap bar food and no-frills atmosphere. – In Short
An all-ages neighborhood crowd gathers for beer, burgers, portabella sandwiches and tater tots in this dimly lit watering hole. Half-moon-shaped booths beckon low-key patrons as they trickle in to eat, drink, smoke and chat; seating also includes a comfy living room setup with couches in the front and about 20 stools lining a long wooden bar. Pinball, a light-up reindeer and a photo booth add a dash of quirkiness to the otherwise subdued decor.
Went with 2 of my girlfriends and we were a bit shocked at what we found. Ambience is not the best. The drinks are good and not pricey at all. We feel like it's a nice laidback place to get a drink at a good price. We tried the chicken wings and we didn't like it. It was overcooked and seemed they just poured BBQ sauce over it.
We would definitely go back and just chill here. Nice little place for a drink!
(none) – This establishment doesn't offer very much in the way of ambience...bartenders double as dj's to a mediocre sound system and the room was dimly lit on all three visits. I tried the food once and it was a bit greasy for my palate, but the service was good. I guess they're trying.
