Chef Giuseppe Tentori serves up delicate and delicious bites in a beautiful dining room.
Modern and delicous. Interesting, eclectic menu and lots of good wines. Kind of expensive. Servers are sort of smug. Still, I liked it and would go back.
Wonderful Food, Great Private Event Space. We hosted a private dinner for 25 at Boka on a Thursday night. The staff was fantastic - everything was set up exactly as we had asked when we arrived and they were more than accommodating to all of our requests. We sat in their enclosed terrace area which was beautiful, charming and secluded. The food was amazing - each course was thoughtful, complex and delicious. Well worth the price.
Food, wine and staff - all great.
Clean flavors, attentive staff and nice dining atmosphere.
We went to Alinea the evening before, which we thought would be the culinary highlight of our trip....but it wasnt. Who knew that a trip next door to its neighbors at Boka would be. We werent sure whether we shoud be overjoyed or disappointed.
Either way we love it here!
SUPERIOR QUALITY FOOD & SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!.
If you're a foody, you will appreciate the service and food at Boka. The menu seasonally changes, and is solid and pure. I would recommend Boka in a heart beat, and can't wait to try Perennial, their new restaurant. I eat primarily fish and seafood, never a issue finding something delicious to eat., the sides are amazing as well, don't miss them! My meat eating friends love the veal cheeks, and yes , even the sweetbreads went down very well. A must restaurant to go on a regular basis. Chef Giuseppe is on top of his game.
Buon appetite
.
Tricky restaurant. I recently dined at Boka only to be tricked into eating veal brains. My husband and I both ordered veal cheeks. When our server Alana described the dish she never said anything about veal brains. When we were served the plate we were given an item by item description and again nothing was said about veal brains. We both ate the small crispy item and then wondered what it was. When we questioned our server we were told that it was veal brains. Upon seeing the surprise on our faces we were told that if they had said what it was we wouldn't have eaten it. Then they laughed. We don't find it the least bit amusing. Such dishonesty shouldn't be tolerated. I wrote a letter to the owners and never even had the courtesy of a reply. I would never dine there again. Shameful.
One of the best Chicago dining experiences. I don't understand why there isn't more hype around this restaurant - it is far superior to other places that get more press. The menu is solid and built to please pretty much any palate. My family and friends, ranging from foodie to meat-and-potatoes, all love this place. My enthusiasm has not gone unnoticed - more than half of the times I've visited Boka, my table has received appetizers and desserts compliments of the house. Every time I've dined here my party has been treated so warmly, not to sound corny, but like we were special guests of the owner or chef (even though we weren't). When I went there for my birthday, they brought out a beautiful dessert plate with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate on the plate. The grilled bartlett pear salad, Chinese black rice (creamy and rich - not what you'd expect from a dish with this name), macaroni and cheese with edamame, and vegetable tart are what I'd recommend. Others I've dined with raved about the venison ("not gamey at all") and beef tenderloin. One of the most friendly, knowledgeable and helpful sommeliers I've ever encountered has been here. The decor is understated and beautiful and the music is at just the right volume. I've never had anything but a fantastic experience here and always look forward to returning.
Amazing restaurant all around. I recently had dinner at Boka for the first time and was completly blown away by the impeccable service from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Even the hostesses were genuine while welcoming us to the restaurant and taking our coats. There was not a single person on the wait staff that was not warm and professional. I used to live across the street and somehow never made it to this restuarant, which although initially I was disappointed with this thought, but I now realize that this is probably a good thing because I would have wanted to have had dinner here every night!!! I will DEFINITELY be coming back.
Theatergoers come early, scenesters come late--all for sublime, modern American eats served in a sleek setting..
In Short
Silky curtains, curvaceous and clean-lined seating and modular shelves twinkling with votives set a modern tone for the assertive fare from Milan-trained Giuseppe Tentori, a Charlie Trotter's alum focusing on progressive American dishes. Big eye tuna marries with grapefruit, wilted mizuna, pickled onions and capers; Muscovy duck breast cozies up to semolina gnocchi, annatto-infused carrots and a confit of elephant garlic with truffle mushrom jus. Raw oysters get updated with mango and horseradish.
Great dining experience!. My boyfriend and I were a little early and were seated at the bar. The bartender was extremely attentive. He read my mind and gave a glass of my now favorite white wine. We were seated at the window and had a lot of privacy to talk. The food portions are small but filling. Service was impeccable, I savored every bite, and left the restaurant completely satifisfied. Worth trying and I will be back again!
great service, fantastic food. I dined at Boka when it first opened, and my wife and I forget how much we loved it. Boka definetly deserves all the great press it gets. Try to sit in the cozy front area! We dined on oysters with mignonette, scallops with lavnder cream and organic pocorn, and a delcious vension with sweet and sour cabbage. Great service as well that was very friendly.
