Editorial Review for Gaslight Bar and Grille – by Maura York
In Short
Much like its Schoolyard Tavern sibling, this long, narrow Lincoln Park bar--opened in October 2003 in the late Reilly's Pub space--offers a refined neighborhood feel and a better-than-average selection of food and drinks. Dark wood and faux gaslights lend warmth, while flat-screen TVs and banquette seating comply with modern-day expectations. Beer pints are more prevalent than martinis here, but edibles veer toward the upscale, including hearty entrees of beef, lamb, chicken and pork.

Gaslight is one of the best neighborhood bars I've ever been to. When we were there the service was awesome and so was the atmosphere. The only down side is that it's small and got crowded quickly. Other then that, we had a blast and will be going back again.

Because the food is better (although pricier too)than average bar food, my friends and I have given Gaslight three tries over the last couple of months. But service is slow - with about 7 people in the place last night, the bartender took 20 minutes to make up 2 martinis (but had plenty of time to watch the tvs). And it took an hour for our burgers to show up. Bad service leaves a bad taste and we won't go back any time soon.
Pros: Good food, Good atmosphere
Cons: Slow bartenders, Slow kitchen
