Editorial Review for Y – by John Dugan
The Scene
This open, yet intimate, lounge is fitted with brown columns, red curtains, gold-toned walls, exotic wood panels and suspended clear-acrylic speaker enclosures. Three reserved-table areas roped off by suited gentlemen dominate the left side, each with plasma screens, faux alligator ottomans and banquettes. Within, partiers mix at low tables and order bottle service (more than a dozen vodkas and many champagnes are offered). In the passage on the right, two amber bars feature black-clad bartender babes serving an infectiously flirty, well-to-do clientele of designer-sporting singles. The glass-enclosed VIP room between the bars provides "privacy" for a bankrolled see-and-be-seen set.
The Draw
DJs spin energetic '80s electro, house and techno, though the space doesn't allow for much dancing. Drinks are on the high-end of pricey (vodka cocktails, gin and tonics, and bottles of Corona are popular), but no one's complaining at Buzz Central.

Insider Tips
Save MoneyThere's no cover when a party reserves a table in advance, but you must order from the bottle-service menu, one bottle required for every four people.
Where to SitThe J-shaped leatherette lounge up front requires no reservation and affords the best people-watching and convenient bar access.
Look GoodReserve the private room: It has windows for service from both bars, and furniture can be arranged to accommodate large or small groups.

Okay.... there's no line to get in because the place is LAME. All attitude with NO cool to back it up. Overcharging the men to get in ($20) and hardly anyone was inside. How boring was it? I'm writing this from Lakeview at 11:30 on Friday night having already left there. Don't waste your time or money on this place; all snob and no cool. No service and bad drinks. I could get drunk faster taking a dose of NyQuil for a head cold. If this place were the example of nightlife in Chicago, I'd move to the middle of nowhere for more entertainment and excitement. A one-star rating is too high.
Pros: No line
Cons: everything else

A few girlfriends and I went to Y Bar on a Friday night and was quite disappointed. The door men charged all of us ladies $20 to get in and there was no line outside! It never got packed all night and not a fun crowd.
Pros: No line outside
Cons: Not a fun crowd
