Creamy, fattening custard just like they make north of the border (Wisconsin, that is!). Splurge on a blended "concrete"--the pb&j version is delectable.

The line outside of Scooter's is enough to prove just how good their frozen custard (and milkshakes) are. These lines don't lie.

This place is dangerous. Smooth, creamy, amazing custard with everything you can think of mixed into it. Also Sprecher root beer floats that rock my world.

A Midwestern treat, frozen custard is denser and more delicious than ice cream. The concretes are terrific and the Boston Shake tops a shake with a mini sundae.
Even better than ice cream. Go for the concrete to blend in your favorite candies. Brownie sundae is awesome with homemade brownie. Even better: caramel fudge nut brownie chip (order CFNBC) concrete. NOT a low-cal food.
Those lazy, hazy days of summer....
The heat is on! Ahhh, who doesn't love Chicago summers, when mercury rises to and past 100 degree mark, the humidity makes your hair frizz instantly, and the concrete is hot enough to fry an egg. Being holed up in your apartment with AC blasting is not the answer.
Enter Scooter's Frozen Custard, a tiny oasis of cool on the corner of Belmont and Paulina. I stumbled upon Scooter's while trying to avoid the scorching sun by taking shady side streets on my walk through Lakeview to Roscoe Village. And I have to tell you, it was love at first sight. Or rather at the first concrete, as delicious custard treats are called at Scooter's. That fateful summer a week would not go by without me making a trip to Scooter's at least once. My local ice cream man must have been jealous.
My favorite treats at Scooter's are not fancy. I love a strawberry concrete with vanilla custard, or one with chocolate chip cookie dough. However, sky is the limit. You want a slice of apple pie in your custard? Sure. Oreo cookies? No problem. What is your heart's desire? Scooter's also serves a delicious hot dog (I should mention their signature red pepper relish, yum). So, you could get lunch and dessert. And if you eat dessert first, no one will be the wiser.
When you are done scraping the sides of your concrete cup, get rid of the evidence and grab a pint from the freezer to take with you. And yes, I will see you soon. Next time say hello. It's Scooter's Addicts Anonymous here.
love, hate, and frozen custard. When a friend and I found scooter's, I met my first "frenemy". I don't recall ever having a frenemy (an enemy disguised as a friend) before- at least not one i was aware of. Scooter's feels like a friend- I think it's Chicago's ONLY frozen custard shop. Being from Wisconsin, I grew up with frozen custard (the creamy, light, treat ice cream wishes it could be.) (By "light", I mean texture, not calorie content.) Thus I was delighted and struck with nostalgia upon our first trip to Scooter's. When I tasted my first "concrete" (a DQ Blizzard-like mix of custard and any topping you can imagine) (my favorites typically incorporate marshmallow sauce, peanut butter cups, and cookie dough), i knew I'd be spending a lot of time with Scooter's, my new friend. Soon I became completely addicted so that I can overindulge in custard one day, feel quite guilty (see my ridiculous topping choices above), then return the next as if enormous frozen custard treats were essential to life. Therefore, frenemy. But a well-disguised enemy. I can't summon a complaint about scooter's actual products....there are unique and delicious flavors of the day, a wide range of toppings that are generously administered, a friendly group of employees, and a cozy neighborhood-y feel. On second thought, maybe Scooter's is a true friend, and I (and the gluttonous toppings I prefer) am my own enemy...
Exceptional. If you have not tried this place, you must!!! I am obsesed with ice cream in the summer and I can't stop going to Scooters! The service is great and the Concrete's are even better. This is by far the best ice cream place in Chicago!!!
Fantabulous!. Scooter's is such a unique experience, that it deserves a unique description. Three years ago, I lived in an apartment directly above the store, and I watched Mardi and Denny work hard to create their work of art. Coming from Philadephia, I missed my favorite summer dessert - Rita's Waterice. Once Scooter's opened, I found a better replacement for Rita's. Although, I still endulge in some delicious Rita's Waterice when I go home, when family comes into town, I take them to Scooter's. Where to begin?!? The freindly staff, fast service, and the feeling that you get walking in the shop is top notch. Mardi and Denny do a great job of getting to know their customers, making little kids smile, and are devoted to preparing quality custard. The custard is amazing and is like nothing that I have ever tasted before. Whether you like simple vanilla or an "Elvis" concrete, I doubt you will be disappointed. The rich flavor, creamy texture, and variety of toppings are what keep me (and many others) coming back for more. Although I order the same thing almost everytime, the flavors of the day offer a tasty option. For most people, I think the hardest part is figuring out which concrete or flavor to order! No worries...since they are open until November, one can always go back for more. Whether you are in search of a cool snack on a hot day, a way to celebrate a Cubs win (the TV in the stop usually has the games on), or you are just looking for a new dessert - Scooter's is the place to go. It is simply...Fantabulous!
great custard. I'm from Philadelphia, where we have Rita's Water Ice, which offers great custard. Scooter's is not as good as Rita's, but people out here don't know the difference anyway. But Scooters is pretty darn good, and now that I live a half a block away, I have to keep myself from going over there every night! Yum!
Finally, good frozen custard in Chicago. Grew up in Milwaukee with Gilles and Kopp's frozen custard, and was amazed when I found out that other cities did not enjoy this treat. Finally, after years of searching, I've found frozen custard in Chicago. Thank you Scooter's. The store is very simple, so do not expect any elegance in decorating, the focus is on the food especially the custard. There is a normally empty city parking lot next to the library behind Scooters, so it is easy to drive up, park, grab some custard and head home. Highly recommended I like the hot fudge sundae with chocolate custard.
This is what summer is all about!. Absolutely delicious! If you haven never had frozen custard, start at the top. Scooter's is a silky rich blend of creamy flavors. Try lemon--my personal favorite!
Best I've had in Chicago. I have never had a bad flavor. Owners Denny and Marty are passionate about the quality of their custard. It is fantastic and a must find.
GREAT!. Such a super place - custard is fantastic, and it makes one feel like they belong to a neighborhood joint. People gather a chat, and the service is always great. They pretty much remember who you are, and the kiddie cone is a nice touch.
