The Scene
Warm lighting, earth tones and a sexy Latin techno beat have this lounge exuding style from the get-go. Canoodling couples and small neighborhood groups slide into deep semicircular banquettes lining the perimeter of the front room. Behind the bar, a dramatic sculpted tree stretches before a wall of back-lit niches filled with tequila bottles. Low couches in the back room, a copper ceiling and wrought-iron chandeliers complete the rustically hip scene.
The Draw
A food menu of south-of-the-border favorites like empanadas, fresh salsas and grilled pork chops attracts an earlier crowd. The main draw, though, are cocktails with 100-percent agave tequila. Served on the rocks with salt, the margarita Tradicional is a smooth blend of Sauza Tres Generaciones, Cointreau and hand-squeezed lime, while tequila Mockingbird, made with Sauza Hornitos and Fresca, has a sweeter kick. In addition, nearly 50 tequilas are available by the shot and in four tasting flights.

AWESOME FOOD, DECOR AND SERVICE -- cannot go wrong by going here. I tried this restaurant last night and it was amazing. We had the mango shrimp appetizer -- it was so good... it was shrimp served witha light mango sauce... with chunky gaucamole on the side with a few chips --(the gaucamole had no onion)--- it was super fresh and tasty! We then tried the pork tacos which were the best tacos I have ever had. We also got the shredded chicken tacos -- also very very good. But I liked the pork better ... which I usually would not order. The pork was seasoned so well -- it really was the best meat I have ever tasted. Also, we got a pitcher of sangria for $4 -- it was a special... served 6 glasses... Very good sangria -- not sugary at all. This place is very inexpensive for the large amount of meat they put in the tacos (a dinner order is 2 tacos) -- we each had 2 tacos and 3 shrimp and were pretty full... was $27 total (including Chicago's outrageous tax). Really cheap for getting shrimp AND alcohol for 2 people!!! The service was great.... no pretentious wait staff and very attentative.... FINALLY a restaurant that is doing it right... Chicago used to be known for their great service in restaurants, but I gotta say it has been lacking lately, which will affect the city because of the tax increases... SO, service is key -- this staff gets it! LIVE DJ as well!!!!!!!! The owners/managers did a great job here -- from the decor to the DJ to the well trained staff I just really liked this place all around.

My NPR member card brought me here. I'm always up for trying a new place in the 'hood. Throw in a 'twofer and I'm there. The meal was ok. I had some delicious scallops. My dining partner had a chicken dish, can't remember what exactly. It was pretty tasty as well. We were in there early-ish on a Sunday evening. It was real chill and I enjoyed the emptiness, the low light and the music. I did not enjoy the astronomical drink prices. I am not a fancy girl and don't drink fancy drinks. But the Original Margarita (well tequila and small) and a bloody mary were 10 bucks each. I'll stick to $5.50 Silver Cloud bloodies thank you very much. I'm on a budget, so unless there was a promo involved, I wouldn't come here to really drink. Call me cheap.

I just returned from a trip to chicago and had the opportunity to try a whirlwind of different restaurants. Although I dined at some fine dining establishments in the city (Le Colonial, Le Lan, Spring), my experience at Salud was defnitely the best overall. First of all, the magaritas were fantastic, and this is coming from a girl who lives in Texas where the art of a good margaria is taken very seriously. I had the tradicional margarita and it was perfect, not sour and tart. And the FOOD! I consider myself somewhat of a foodie, and the pork dish I had was one of the best dishes i have ever eaten at a restaurant (and I don't even like pork and never order it). The perfectly roasted pork lay ontop of a bed of exquisitely seasoned potatoes and was garnished with crunchy plantain chips. I'm a petite girl who rarely can finish her food and I polished off the whole plate. I just can't emphasize how good the food is at this place. The ambience, music and the waitstaff were also great. The best, most amazing part? It's so affordable. Meals started at 9 dollars and the dish i got was 16 dollars. A steal!! Defiitely come out here if you want to have a faulous night.
