What People Are Saying About Filipiniana Restaurant

In Short – Every ex-pat searches for the kind of food mom used to make, and for local Filipinos, this would be that restaurant. Ambience takes the form of oil paintings of Manila street scenes, carved wooden figurines and a bamboo bar, but customers provide a more curious backdrop. Don't be surprised to see grandma returning for another plate of crispy pata or spouses of Filipinos trying salty pinakbet for the first time. A wealth of stews, like kare-kare oxtail soup and traditional chicken adobo, star on the menu with party favorites such as pancit and lumpia. – –

good eats at Filipiniana

by phoenixfeather at Citysearch

Filipiniana offers curious native art, beautiful framed dioramas, and detailed sketches depicting Philippine life circa 1800-1900s. Ample space holds around ten tables in the front area (an equal number towards the back) and is well-lit. The food is scrumptious, though service can be a bit slow: I suggest ordering an appetizer or two. An extensive menu offers many mouth-watering delicacies, most of them not vegan-friendly and some dishes (especially Crispy Pata) require manual dexterity. Portions are hearty. I hear they offer Sunday AYCE (all you can eat) buffet - that's excellent news! I went with my family on a Saturday evening and found the experience to be pleasant and worth repeating. I don't know if there are many Filipino cuisine restos in Chicago; but this place I'll recommend going back to.

  • Pros: yummy hearty portions, ample space, lighting
  • Cons: , meat in most dishes
