Great Ambiance, Service and Food!. I had a Thai Kai salad and it was absolutely incredible. I have had the grilled chicken salad which is also amazing. Whenever my drink was low, a refill was brought to me before I had to ask for it. The queso appetizer was delicious and we were scraping the last bits from the bowl we could get.

Great place for good food and conversation. I love this restaurant - parking is always easy, the food is wonderful, the noise level is low, the ambiance is attractive, and the service is efficient and pleasant. There are lots of great places to eat north of the loop, but few combine all of the above. If conversation is an important part of your dining experience, this is the place for you. Keep it up!

Awesome Staff, Awesome Prices, and Awesome Food. I don't know why people keep saying that the prices are high at J Alexanders because they're not--especially for the portion sizes served. You could go to Subway and get a footlong sub for the same price as an 1/2 lb. Bacon Swiss Burger and Shoestring fries at J Alexanders! I went there for the first time and was SO happy with the place. The staff is very friendly and quick, the food was amazing (and I'm picky), and the prices were just right. I had the Bacon Swiss Burger and fries (both of which are enormous in size) for $10 and my friend had the rotisserie chicken and smashed potatoes for $15 (again, HUGE portion sizes, so come hungry!)

If you're a cheapskate (like the previous customers seem to be) then order the lemonade instead of wine or liquor. The lemonade is sooo good--fresh from the lemon which sits in your glass.

Overall, great place and I highly recommend it to anyone on a date or social gathering. The environment is intimate and very well designed.

High quality food for an ok price. The food here is great. I am not so high on the menu change, but the food is still excellent. The prices are high, but the food IS worth it. The martini's on the other hand are small. They taste ok, nothing to great and definately not bad, but the size of the drink (8 oz. glass and never filled to the top) is annoying. I am not asking for a Gibsons sized 12 oz. but if a restaurant is going to have a decent sized martini list like J Alexanders they should sport a 10 oz. glass. The food though is great and I go there about once a month.

After work drinks. Some of the best appetizers I have ever had. The wine list is impressive and very affordable (Cakebread Cab at only $72!). Great staff; prompt service and very good looking. The pub is one of the most relaxed in the city, unpretentious and casual, yet professional. Great place for drinks after work.

Impeccable service and hungry man-sized portions draw a crowd to this upscale meat-and-potatoes place.. The Scene
This handsome, dimly lit space on the bustling Clybourn strip is a chain restaurant, but it sure doesn't feel like one. Just inside the door, a sleek bar and lounge area beckons cocktailers with roomy leather chairs and flat screen TVs. In the raised dining room beyond, intimate black booths are ideal for a corporate powwow or intimate date. With friendly waitstaff working in teams, no water glass goes unfilled.

The Food
The kitchen turns out doggie-bag-big plates of hearty American fare with a sprinkling of global influences. Red meat lovers can choose from plenty of choice steaks and a perfectly pink prime rib. Burgers are the real standouts: lean, juicy, topped with thick slabs of bacon and served on a soft sesame-seed bun. Seared ahi tuna is a more delicate plate, ruby-red and tender with slightly kicky wasabi cilantro vinaigrette. For dessert, white chocolate cheesecake is chunky with white chocolate pieces and topped with whipped cream.
