In Short – Pink is the theme at this expanded Lakeview salon with its rose-colored floors and pink stencil designs lining the walls between ceiling-high mirrors. Trendy twentysomethings get their hair cut, colored and styled by even trendier stylists sporting funky cuts in all colors of the rainbow. Up front, neat rows of Aveda bottles line the shelves to keep up the primping at home.

Scared to have my hair re-done
by eva diva at Citysearch
Encourage by very good reviews here, I went to SineQua Non for a haircut. I told the stylist NOT to use any products besides shampoo and conditional, but she did not listen. I got the single worst haircut in my life. I literally look like Kristen Stewart in "Runaways". She will re-do it next week, but my hair is already too short on the top, so what possibly can she do. I wonder if they give me $64 back if I am not happy. I am scared to go back there. i wonder what happen to "creativity and understanding someone hair". I am very disappointed because I spent more than I should and I look awful.

I finally found someone who understands my hair - better than I do! Trish at SineQua Non was recommended to me by my daughter, of all people, which means you are never too old to learn.
Despite Chicago weather, the change of seasons, and business versus casual, Trish has helped me find a way to work my hair into my life. Finally....
Definitely Worth It

My sister started going here a few years ago and had the greatest things to say. She sees Aimee, so when I was looking for a place to get my hair cut I made an appointment with her too. I can't say enough nice things about her. First off, the location is extremely easy to get to. The staff is always friendly and offer drinks or to take care of your jacket or anything you need. They always have good music playing and everyone is nice. Right away Aimee was friendly and interested in learning about me and making sure I got what I wanted. My first visit there I wasn't exactly sure of how I wanted my hair cut so Aimee was more than willing to help me figure it out. Every time I have been there I have been extremely pleased. Although I don't normally buy any of the products, they have a great assortment that is always fully stocked. The overall feel of the salon is very chill. You do have to book pretty far in advance because the stylists get filled up quickly. An extra bonus is if you're a DePaul student you get a discount. Also between hair cuts you get a free trim. I would definitely go there more if I didn't live in the suburbs and also the pricing is pretty high but at the end of the day it's worth it because I always leave happy and feel great with my new cut.
- Pros: Friendly Staff, Great Cuts, Nice Location, Good Music
- Cons: Pricey

Sine Qua Non's Best Asset

I don't live in the area but I wish I did! I was recently in Chicago on business and stopped in after reading the reviews on CitySearch. Jennie is the only person I've found that has mastered both the cut and the color. I mentioned to her that I didn't see her name on the site and she informed me that she recently moved to Chicago so I thought I'd get the word out that Jennie is amazing! I live in Portland but I will make sure to find myself in Chicago next time I need to get my hair done. Nobody else is touching my hair again...I've already booked Jennie for my wedding!
