“The decor is inviting.”
“You must sit at the bar at least once to experience the full capabilities -- and ambiance -- of Hama Matsu.”
“Awesome food - if it's busy then it's not the greatest experience.”
“my favorite sushi restaurant”
“The food is excellent, the prices competitive, the staff friendly.”
“The pricing is not too bad.”
“Service at the tables is slow and inconsistent, but that is my only complaint.”
rude service, error-prone staff, non-apologetic attitude.. I have never seen such rude restaurant staff in my life. When they realized no serving plates were on our table, they bluntly asked us, "where are your plates?", as if we hid them on purpose. Then they forgot a spider roll we ordered. When we reminded them, the sushi chef insisted that she made it and the waitress went back and forth to check with us three times as if we were the ones who made a mistake. While I acknowledge that it was a busy Friday night, it's extremely rude and insulting to have come back three times to ask if we had mis-spoken. No apologies were offered from the restaurant. When the spider roll did come, the waitress inserted it in front of my friend's face between his chest and his serving plate.
Decent sushi. The atmosphere is not bad. It is a small cozy restaurant. Best place for the winter. The restaurant is very decorative. The pricing is not too bad. I don't think the sushi is that fresh.
I NEVER leave disappoointed :). My FAVORITE restaurant !!! I come all the time for awesome sushi with a personal touch--mmm. Worth every penny and a great way to end/start the week. The quality and consistency brings me back for more, and Jason, Ban g, and the crew always give WONDERFUL service. (^_^)/
Cozy sushi in Andersonville. This place has great sushi for your buck, and it's dark, quiet, and cozy on a winter day. Byob, but luckily there's a great liquor store at Foster & Clark.
my favorite sushi restaurant. I love the sushi here - I'm pretty much with everyone else's reviews. Awesome food - if it's busy then it's not the greatest experience. I usually get a craving for sushi and go on a whim - if it's a weeknight I know I can get in with no problem and enjoy some awesome food.
Simply AWESOME!!!.
UPDATE (7/27): I came back here in January for my 25th birthday with my family and they're STILL THEE BEST AND they remembered me from my last visit!!! Now THAT'S quality service =)
REVIEW: I only had one dining experience here with my family after my graduation. I have to say I only needed one visit to tell their food was top notch quality for an affordable price. I LOVED IT!!! Although it is small for a restaurant in Andersonville (and there was only 3 people working the front (one being the sushi chef), everything was PERFECT. From their spicy gyoza to their dragon rools that melt in your mouth, then from their sukiyaki to their mochi ice cream, they will definitely have you coming back for more. But be warned, it's BYOB =(. But with food like this, who need it. Give it a try when you're in Andersonville; you won't regret it.
Stepped it up. 2/2/07: Cute decor, small place, clean, very friendly staff, great food, prices are reasonable. We gave it another try several months after the ordeal of the very long wait for 3 maki rolls (the 1st came out after 40 mins). I must say, it's been all good. We dine in and do pick-up regularly now. BYOB (liquor store on the northeast corner of Clark & Foster).
Oishii desu Yo!.
Hands down a phenomenal dining experience with excellent quality. Bang's cooking is of traditional Japanese taste as good as my mom's. Ask Jason and Bang for the 'Omakase' and they will personalize your meal beyond outstanding. Hama
Matsu is the place for good food, good times, and good friends for everyone from the sushi-affectionado to sushi-neophyte without the chic-chic nonsense. Oishii desu Yo!!!
And tell them Dai sent you!
Yummy good!.
A few years ago, we decided to try as many decent sushi restaurants in Chicago as possible - a survey. After visiting a good number of places, we decided that Hama Matsu was the one we like best. The food is excellent, the prices competitive, the staff friendly. Other places were fancier, but often too loud music, mediocre sushi, and uptight attitudes trying to be too hip turned us off.
Visit Hama Matsu - you will not be disappointed! Make reservations on weekends. I recommend going in around 6pm. Things get really busy there around 8pm.
Super SUSHI~!.
Im regular at this place, I went to this restaurant
with my friends this week, (AGAIN~)
this place is "SUPER"!! fresh fish, fresh vegetable, fresh everything!!
You might have to wait a little when this place is packed,
because they never PRE make thier food unlike other busy restaurant~!
everything is done right in front of you!
if you don't like waiting, I'm suggesting the weekdays =)
