The Scene
Funky modern art (including a stunning cement relief sculpture) covers the taupe, burgundy and exposed-brick walls of this ambitious neighborhood spot, which stands out among the more casual taquerias and local hangouts on this stretch of Division. Cherry-stained tables and a long, handsome bar fill the warmly lit space, attracting a multi-lingual crowd of couples on dates and groups of friends.

The Food
The Latin menu offers a mix of classic Puerto Rican dishes alongside contemporary plates, with equally pleasing results. Bandeja de Coco makes for a great start: a generous house sampler of appetizers brimming with coconut-crusted shrimp; crunchy shredded plantain fritters; and flaky, empanada-like pastelillos filled with ground beef. Mofongo is a favorite entree, a traditional dish of smashed plantains stuffed with shrimp, chicken or vegetables in spicy red bell pepper sauce. Other options include lamb chops in papaya sauce, yucca-stuffed chicken breast and creamy, decadent coconut flan.
