Hidden in the lower level of the 900 Shops off of Michigan Avenue, this Chicago workout club is the posh place to go for a sweat session. Complete with a pool, two floors of cardio and weight machines and several studios for classes, this club is as broad as the clients who belong there. Businessmen, Gold Coast elite and fitness fanatics can all be seen pumping iron before heading to the office. On the way out, they grab a smoothie from the juice bar before taking their buff bods to work. The after-work scene is equally as busy, with a heavy emphasis on classes and personal training sessions.…

You Don't Count

IF you want your voice to be heard, this is not the club for you. Jason, the manager would sooner tell you to leave than hear you out. The classes and times are constantly being rearranged or canceled. The place is pretty, but I agree with one reviewer; no one is around in any of the work out rooms to help. If you do not want to hire a trainer, you are out of luck.
makes me sweat!

I love this place. For those of you who have never been you are missing out on an incredibly beautiful club, spotlessly clean gym and a place where the staff is really friendly and welcoming.
I went because it was close and i hate traveling far to workout - yeah once I get home i dont want to get back out. my habits have changed and i love going here.
really easy classes and some that are really hard but there are tons to choose from.
the place is always clean and there are always clean towels everywhere. anytime i need something there is friendly staff and management always out and about in the club to help.
everything i need in a club is here......weights, cardio, new things to try in classes, super super clean and an amazingly friendly staff who seems like that care I am there every day.
thank you Equinox!

I expected that being in the Gold Coast and in the Mile.. that I'd spend some good money for some professionalism. This place is a joke. Upon walking up to the front desk to inquire on membership, I asked to inquire and I was told to have a seat. The manager Jason walked by as I was seated and I asked if I could use the restroom while I waited. His response was " sure.. go out through there, up the escalator to the next floor, those are the mall public restrooms". I was extremely offended since Equinox is a gym.. dont they have a locker room? Needless to say, I enrolled because its close to my place. Upon leaving I looked up after hearing an argument and lord behold it was the same Manager JASON arguing with a MEMBER ! His reply to the conversation was "well sir.. you can always just cancel I dont know what to tell you, I dont get paid for this". I am in the process of cancelling my membership, this place is average and for the price totally not worth it. Im joining Xsport Fitness which is nicer and the Manager there is so nice.
It doesn't measure up to comparable clubs.

If you?re coming from a small health club, Equinox will be a step up. But if you?ve belonged to East Bank, Lakeshore or MidTown, as I have, you might agree Equinox doesn?t measure up. I signed a one-year contract at Equinox a little over a year ago. The facility looks upscale and is well maintained. The area for stretching is inadequate, so I often had to wait for a space. I was able to make-do with the exercise equipment, but it lacks the variety found in Chicago clubs of this price range. If you work out with free weights, be aware there is rarely anyone from the club in that room during the day to spot you. The classes are mostly geared to the intermediate and advanced crowd, so you won?t find much here if you're new or getting back into shape after an injury. There are lots of for-hire trainers, but the free club employees were rarely available to help me with equipment. (By the way, the trainers here cost about 50% more than the other clubs I?ve belonged to.) My billing was often incorrect, and I had to call corporate customer service to clear things up. A couple of months before my contract ended, I left a note at the front desk for the club manager saying I didn?t want to renew. My follow-up calls to the club manager were not returned, and on my last day the club insisted I owed them for an additional 45 days because I hadn?t delivered the note ?via registered mail.? (It?s times like this when it?s good to have a lawyer in the family.) Considerations: 1) It?s easy to get swayed by the way Equinox looks (as I did), instead of the way it works. So insist on a short-term membership of one to three months. If they refuse, say you?ll think it over. My friend did this and they called her with a one-month offer. 2) Don?t sign their contract without reading every line. 3) Be aware this is not a social club. People work out here and leave. There isn?t even a place in the club to have coffee with a friend
