“You mix the good food with good wine (BYOB, except for 3.50 corkage fee) and it makes for a fun night.”
“To top it all, it is still BYOB, so feel free to take a wine of your choice and enjoy with this delicious food.”
“For entrees, I would recommend the salmon, scallops, and shrimp diabla.”
“The menu is very stale and never changes.”
“Then a minute later he was bragging to his friends at the bar about all the famous people he knew and how much money he was making!”

OVER RATED---NOT A BYOB ANY MORE!. I Have been here 3 times in the past. It was always a BYOB, now it is not! The Chef was rude about it and said we could not drink our wine we brought because "he was losing too much F*$king money." Then a minute later he was bragging to his friends at the bar about all the famous people he knew and how much money he was making! The food was mediocre at best. The menu is very stale and never changes. I thought the food was ok the first time we went, and came back because it was a BYOB---now for the price and the flavor of the food, I will not be back. I don't need to support a jerky chef with his bogus wine list, weak bar, and small menu---especailly since he makes soooooo much money!
The Jewel of Pilsen. Don't let the location or exterior of May St. Cafe scare you off. The interior is small, but intimate. You will definitely need reservations as it seems to be flooded with customers since they were featured on Check Please. The food will not make you say WOW, but it is good. You mix the good food with good wine (BYOB, except for 3.50 corkage fee) and it makes for a fun night. This place is really small, so I wouldn't recommend it for large groups. The brie and pear quesadilla appetizer as well as the butternut squash with cranberries are quite good. For entrees, I would recommend the salmon, scallops, and shrimp diabla. We ended the evening with the mango flan, which (although it was only two quarter sized-pieces) delicious. I'm sure that they will continue to improve their service and create more innovative dishes. Oh yeah, if you're a wine enthusiast, you may want to bring your own wine glasses since they don't have any.
Must try. Great food, good service and two really good chefs who know what they are doing. To top it all, it is still BYOB, so feel free to take a wine of your choice and enjoy with this delicious food.
