Bad service? Try working there w/o any tips.
by sfranco at Citysearch
You all talk about how horrible the service is here, BUT the reason is because this restaurant doesn't pay any tips to their servers.
I used to love this restaurant until I friend of mine that worked there to save money for school told me they didn't pay him nor anybody tips.
All tips go to the owner's pocket...so there. Where you have bad service, something else is behind it.
Never going there again. So disappointed they treat their workers like that.
worst service for even worse food.

First time going was on a Saturday night... was basically rushed out of there as soon as we got there... telling us the kitchen was closing soon (it wasn't even near the time listed as their closing hours). the waitress literally waited next to our table right after handing us the menus. And until we placed our order.. she finally left, giving us annoyed looks and sighing that whole time she was waiting. Tikka masala did not taste anything near any tikka masala i've ever had... it was salty and absolutely awful. The naan... stale after 5 minutes of sitting out...
dirty glasses... that did not even look washed AT ALL.
There was only one single nice waiter. But the rest of the staff, pretty awful. We were thankful once we saw our first waitress leave early.
Mid meal, we were given our tab, because they were also shutting down the credit card machine.
Never going here again. The food is def. not worth putting up with this horrendous service.
- Pros: nothing good about this place.
- Cons: everything from the service to the food to the cleanliness of the dishes.
I have had better service at McDonalds at Lunch hour.

I have never received service this bad. When I entered I was not met by a hostess/waiter. A young woman told me which numbered table to sit at from across the room. After I seated myself, I received the only decent serivce for the entire meal; I was handed the menus. Service aside, the food is ok. After receiving the menus, the waiter went to the back of the restaurant to talk to the other waiters for 10 minutes. The waiter finally arrived and took our order. After the food arrived, I did not receive a refill on the water for the entire meal. Indian food=hot, people this is not complicated. Finally I asked for a refill on the water. When the refill on the water came, 2 minutes later the bill came. To add injury to insult, when I paid with a credit card, the waiter brought back the bill without a pen. Normally, I would believe this was a honest oversight but not this time. This restaurant's food is not good enough to warrant service this bad. Do yourself a favor and go to McDonald's and sprinkle curry on the fries instead of going here.
- Pros: Decent Food
- Cons: Serivce so bad, I wouldn't send my enemies to eat here.
Bad Service

The service at Hema's Kitchen is sub-par. We've waited forever for our drinks, food and even to have an order taken. I've given Hema's Kitchen a fair chance, hoping that each experience would be better than the one before. Unfortunately, the service just doesn't live up to my very minimal expectations.
Great Local Option

If you don't feel like make the trek to Devon Hema's is a great local option. Good food, good portions, great prices with the added extra of being BYOB. The restaurant itself has a simple, clean mixed crowd that is nothing fancy but nice. The service is a little slow but if you aren't in a hurry head into the party story four doors down grab a few of the indian beers available and enjoy enjoy a great little local find.
- Pros: taste of food, portions, BYOB
- Cons: Service
