Editorial Review for Angel Food Bakery – by Valerie Moloney
In Short
Self-taught pastry chef Stephanie Samuels, whose sugary creations have been featured on the Food Network, approaches her cakes as works of art. From a Carmen Miranda "drag queen" cake to a two-tier bowling pin cake topped with a bowling ball, bold colors and patterns demonstrate an appreciation for the whimsical, while more elegant designs satisfy traditional brides and grooms-to-be. Flavors include carrot-ginger, cappucino, lemon ginoise and orange.

I ordered a large box of cranberry oatmeal mini-scones for a co-workers birthday. They were reasonably priced for scones, and the size was bigger than I expected. The raves from our staff continue to echo. I have never eaten in the Bakery, though I've long admired the beautiful cakes in the window. I had called with less than a 24-hour notice (cakes, I learned, require a 48-hour notice) and was helped in the most friendly way possible considering I had no idea what I wanted to order. Excellent, buttery Cranberry Oatmeal scones. I think I've started an office tradition!
Pros: 7 AM Pickup; Proximity to Montrose Brown Line
Cons: None

This place is known for its desserts but the sandwiches and salads are excellent too. Don't miss the malted-milk chocolate cupcake through; it's worth the trip.
Pros: Good lunch fare and excellent desserts
