Best indian food... ok service...

by Bhiku at Citysearch

Being of an Indian origin, I'm very picky about Indian food. This restaurant is my favorite because they come closest to the food I have had in good restaurants in India. Also if you tell them to make food spicy, they will make it right. It is a bit on the more expensive side but it's worth it in my opinion. The service is not the best but it's also not the worst. So I won't say it's a con. There aren't any windows in the restaurant so it's a bit of a different environment. The only con is that buffet food is not that great. It does not taste anything like the same dishes when ordered separately. So avoid that.

  • Pros: Awesome food
  • Cons: Don't like the buffet food here.

Beautiful Banquet Hall, Pathetic Service

by reviewsem at Citysearch

We had our wedding ceremony here (abt 100 ppl).. the banquet hall is beautiful and they did the decorations for us too which were really good.. but the service was PATHETIC.. despite clear instructions on how and when to distribute the food they totally messed it up and the entire while my aunt was in the KITCHEN ensuring that food and drinks were sent out in time! This offended some key personnel in the family and soured relations :(

Im not sure if they catered the food from their restaurant or elsewhere, but most ppl liked the food.. I didnt share that opinion but prob it was just the stress!

  • Pros: Beautiful place, great floral decoration service provided
  • Cons: Customer Service

Best regional Indian - Shikara

by djbas at Citysearch

Though we haven't been to an event at the banquet hall, the Ashyana Banquet's restaurant, Shikara, is head and shoulders above any other Indian restaurant in the area (DuPage Co), and believe me, we've tried them all. The menu's not your run-of-the-mill Indian - it has the Korma's, Makhani's, Tikka Masala's, and many vegetarian dishes common to Indian restaurants but also has a significant number dishes that we've never seen at other places. Especially good is the Lamb Dahiwala, one of the best lamb curries we've ever had, and the seemingly simple Malai Chicken, which even our kids love, is never dry, and just melts in your mouth. Their fish curries offer unique Indian regional cuisines. We also love being able to get traditional South Indian dishes (Dosai's with sambhar and chutney) all under the same roof. Prices are moderate, though don't include rice. Portions are also moderate. Service is very good. They have a decent wine selection, which is hard to find at Indian restaurants. Our only gripe so far is that their samosa's are quite small, even if they are only a buck, and their menu has a couple errors with regards to dishes that contain nuts (we have a nut allergy). Also note that the weekend lunchtime buffet is highly recommended!
