If you're looking for a sports bar with games (and an updated schedule online), inexpensive fried food, burgers and beer specials, you've found it.
One of the Great Northside bars. The place doesnt smell like barf. Thats stupid. This place is one of my favorite Northside Bars. Its got a great atmosphere and love sitting outside in the summer. Bonus! They have a really good beer selection and the food is better than what you get in most bars. They have the best wings in the city. I love their chicken chipotle wrap. Its the bomb! Service was great here and the Bartender Jennifer is super friendly. Our waitress Erin was very pleasant as well. She was very attentive and my friend and I had a great time. I would recommend this place to everyone for great food, service and atmosphere. If you are price conscious then you will love this place even more. They have specials for food and drinks everyday of the week. WIn, Win, Win.
Smells Like Barf. I've lived in the neighborhood for years, and this place leaves a lot to be desired. The fact that it smells like barf inside & outside from their cooking exhaust is probably the #1 reason why you should visit Gio's up the street instead
waste of time and money. Bad place, bad people, bad food, terrible service. Went in with low hopes judging by the armpit scratchers out front and manning the door. Do they speak english in this place? Waitresses were useless. Food came and the order was wrong, then showed up later very unappetizing by site and smell, then the taste confirmed it. Our bill was like $40.00 and we drank I think 3 beers between the two of us. Felt ripped off and couldn't wait to leave and never return. Bad vibes, cold atmosphere, trying to be "classic bar" but too new and cheesy to be a real old school neighborhood joint. Looks like an investment for some lowlife scumbags to make some money off of boneheaded customers who don't know anyplace better to go.
skip it. Service is beyond slow. Prepare to ask for your check an hour before you want to leave. They charge different prices, depending on day, for a soda. Today was $3 per soda. I've never heard of such a thing. Other days it's $2 sometimes $2 every other one. This price is not listed anywhere on their menus so I guess they can get away with it.
Great place to catch a game. I come all the way from Oak park from work so before headin home I like to stop off here to have a couple beers and catch a game. It's convenient for me and easy to jump back on and head home. Good daily specials. I recommend if your in the area to check it out.
UPDATED REVIEW. I thought I'd write an updated review on here since I live in the area and have been to The Rail a couple times in the last 3 years. Within this they have gone through some changes from food and drink specials as well as the expansion of room inside the bar. I enjoy going here in the summer for the outdoor patio seating but make it here during other times as well. They have made a change in staff which is a HUGE plus bc I know that was an issue in the past with the service. Overall I think they have an excellent food menu with great daily food specials. Mon nights are my fave because I get to have.10 wings and watch Monday Night football in one of the million tvs. I recommend anyone to stop in and check this place out. Right off the Damen Brown line!
NOW there is good quality service!.
Now Good Quality Service!!
This place has really come a long way. I was reading the reviews from some years back and it seems like the service was horrible because of the servers...and since then there are completly differnt ones. There are still a few stubborn foreigners I think the bar tender...she is nice to ya but means busiess and has the best intentions for this place. The Rail is just your neighborhood bar, and its great for those of us living right around the coner and people that want to stop in for a drink and food. The specials are amazing food 10 cent wings on Monday!! and drinks even thou they change alot. The door man is hilarious and always has a good conversation and there is this really nice southern red head and short young blonde girl that works there. So if your bitching about the wait staff look for them, there great!! All in all great atmosphere always tries to help out with the games you want to watch...and the service has gotten alot better.
I'll Pass. Aside from the mediocre food & ambience, the staff is rude & arrogant. I'm also sickened by the cloud of cigarette smoke that always awaits anyone who walks past this place. I've also found that the 'new' Rail attracts d-bags galore. It's just not a cool place to go. The music is always blasting & if the owner could- he'd put a flatscreen TV at every table, which is just tacky.
Stink, Stank, The Rail is Crank.
The negative reviews here are entirely warranted. The wait staff is incompetent, and YES, the manager / owner are ARROGANT, and have no respect for patrons, who point out sub-par service & food.
There are SO many great place to drink in this area, this one is worth avoiding - AND besides....their bathrooms are DIRTY!
no professionalism/ amateurish. I was pretty disappointed when I wrote a negative review on this place back last spring, but to read more from other people almost a year later tells me that apathy rules here. Sorry folks, but as long as you put up with poor service, crappy atmosphere and insulant staff they'll stay in business. This is a HUGE city, and there are enough people to go around to keep lousy businesses running for a LOT longer than they should. Instead of waiting for an hour or more for food, get up and leave. If you say something to the manager/owner/server and they have the 'oh well' attidtude, stiff the check. Two can play that game, and word-of-mouth can make or break a place. A business like this would last about 6 months on the east coast. Vote with your dollars as well as your conscience and quit putting up with mediocrity.
