Upscale Mexican!. We enjoyed our meal at Picante Grill on a Thursday night. There was some sort of event going on upstairs, so there was loud music playing when we entered, but somehow downstairs, where the bar and dining area are it was dampened, so my husband and I were able to have a nice conversation throughout our meal without yelling at each other. The food was pretty good. We started off with the sombreritos which were really good -- the sopes were crunchy on the outside and stood up to the toppings well, while the middles were softer and chewy. My favorite one was the black bean one. For our entrees, I had the vegetarian plate, which was okay. The avacado "taco" was a small (5-inch) torilla filled with guacamole (no cheese, lettuce, tomato, salsa, nothing). The quesadilla was also in a very small tortilla, but good. The black bean tostada was the best part -- it was delicious, and a reasonable size as well. As for sides, I got about 3 tablespoons of flavorless rice, and about 3 more tablespoons of refried beans that looked, felt, and tasted like they came from a can. My husband ordered the Milanesa capitalina, which was tasty, but more heavily breaded than we had expected, but contained a lot of flavor -- the meat was not all that well seasoned, though. The accompanying potatoes were good. Somehow, we got a free flan for dessert -- it was good, but I think there was chocolate in it, which was unexpected for sure. There was also a pineapple sauce accompanying it, which my husband really enjoyed. We might go back, but would more likely go to one of the hole-in-the-wall local places on Blue Island nearby.
