In Short – Patrons in search of Irish bric-a-brac and a fiddle-driven soundtrack won't find either that at this River North tap and grill. Copper light fixtures and multiple levels of dining and boozing go against the predictable expectation of an Irish bar. The food, however, rings familiar notes, from creamy three-cheese macaroni flavored with parmesan, Dubliner and smoked gouda versions to a cheesburger crowned with Irish bacon. After the lunch crowds have gone home, pretty gals and guys in striped shirts overtake the back bar, making it a full-fledged dance club that vibrates to the…

PICKPOCKETS HERE - BEWARE!

by bomiekim at Citysearch

I suggest that you do NOT go here because there are pickpockets, and the employees KNOW there are pickpockets, but do not prevent them from coming in here. If you do go here, make sure you do not leave your purse unattended. I caught one in the act on Friday night, July 31. She will be an African American female who is alone, pretending to be drinking, and is clearly not in the demographic of people who go there.

Ehh...

by sstick83 at Citysearch

They have some great weeknight deals on food and drinks--notably the HUGE dollar burgers on Mondays! Yum :)

However, the staff has been either inattentive or forgetful every time I've been there. (At my last visit, our waitress forgot to put my order in...)

Also, for what it's worth, the bathroom is falling apart. The heavy oak stall-door literally fell right off the hinge and clobbered me when I tried to open it!

In sum, I won't be returning, but I don't regret the dollar burgers.

  • Pros: dollar burgers!
  • Cons: staff, building

A great place to chill or get crazy

by robxbrb at Citysearch

I had never even heard of this bar until my friend's sister decided to celebrate her birthday there. There were intimate booths where people could dine, and an open bar area upstairs. The crowd was young and "J. Crew" looking. I'm not sure how much drinks cost because there was a man at the bar who bought my friends and I drinks all night... we didn't even speak to him, he just pointed at us from across the bar. I had so much fun at this bar socializing and dancing. Everyone was friendly and chill and the DJ spinned great music. My only complaint is that he repeated some songs. All in all it was a great time.

  • Pros: Ambiance

The Details on The Kerryman

What to Drink:

Beyond its basic taps, the restaurant serves a mean snakebite (Magners Irish cider, Harp and black currant) as well as Guinness, Smithwicks, Bass and Harp.

Save Money:

Mondays are $1 burger nights with the purchase of an alcoholic beverage. Cheese is extra.

Parking:

If you can't find a metered spot on Erie, valet for $10 or try the pay garage on Clark and Erie. Watch out, though. The garage is narrow and traffic goes both ways.
