This homey little restaurant, splashed with color from vivid blue tables and chairs and muted lime-green walls, hums with sounds from the open kitchen and the lively conversation of neighborhood patrons. Antojitos (little snacks) center around corn and include gorditas (corn masa patties filled with goat cheese) and flautas de pollo (shredded chicken inside crisp rolled corn tortillas). Larger dishes include sopes--moist masa cakes topped with meat or vegetables, cheese, pico de gallo and sour cream. Alambre cazuela lets you make your own tacos with your choice of meat and sides of onions,…

Very Disapointing

by Orlaithk

We went to Maiz tonite for dinner and we're very disapointed with the food and service. First of all, we ordered the Mole enchiladas, the house speciality and one of the reasons we went there for. Well, the waitress informed us 20 minutes after ordering it that the mole woudnt be done for another hour and would we like another sauce!! The entree's we're small and the service was slow and there was only one other table of diners there!! The margaritas were good though, but didnt make up for the rest of the experience,.

  • Pros: good drinks
  • Cons: everything else

A great new find!

by KJLEB

Went there on a Saturday with some friends and had a great meal. The food was definitely cheap but you do get what you pay for. I had the tacos and had to order a side of beans. That's ok b/c it still cost me less than $6 total. You're definitely not paying for presentation but that's not necessary anyways. The margaritas were strong and really smooth. Service was very attentive but not overbearing. The salsas had a great kick that gets you in the end. I can definitely see myself making this a place I will visit frequently. Overall, this was a very cheap night that left everyone satisfied. The only negative is that they're cash only.

  • Pros: Cheap eats, strong drinks
  • Cons: Cash only

good kids menu

by cterrell

We went for the food and wish we had had a margarita instead. I agree with the other reviewer. It tasted okay but for the money I think you should get more food. We had the flautas and all I can say is "where's the chicken?!" And that's all you get no rice, no beans. My kids wanted soup, and while it was good...it was overpriced. One of my sons wanted an elote ($4.75), why bother other than I didn't want a meldown. You get better on the street for a buck 50. There is comparable Mexican elswhere and you get your monies worth. I appreciated the kids menu even though my kids didn't want it.

  • Pros: parking, kids menu
  • Cons: ala carte
