Editorial Review for The Book Cellar – by Fred Schlatter

In Short
Tucked into a row of Lincoln Square shops, literary quote-plastered doors open to the cafe, featuring a few tables, a lounging nook and counter. The rest of the space is dedicated to books. Coffee drinks are hot or cold--either perfect with one of the several pastries. Savory choices include sandwiches like the roast beef with leeks and blue cheese, and salads like the substantial chopped version with feta, chicken and bacon.

Just the concept of a bookstore with a wine bar was enough to draw me in. Very nice selection of books. Lovely atmosphere. The prices are reasonable and the service is warm and friendly. I will definitely be back often.

I went to the Book Cellar just to look around and found a bunch of unique gifts to give my 'hard to shop for' family members and a couple books for myself. I was impressed immediately with how quaint the shop was but also the fact that I can sit back with a glass of wine and read my new books - I didn't need to rush out of there like I feel like I do with larger book stores. On top of it being a great destination for me and my christmas gift list, I noticed that they have a bunch of different events that go on throughout the month. I will definitely go back and check out one of the events soon. Its definitely worth checking out if you haven't been there before =)

Pros: good prices, huge selection, friendly employees

Cons: not in my neighborhood =( worth the drive though
