The Scene – The high-octane Gibson's scene migrates to River North in a lively blend of neighborhood cultures. Tile archways separate the cavernous bar from the bustling dining room, with funky, mismatched tableware, vintage chairs and a vast open kitchen. It's all noisy, happy harmony--including friendly service (though wine knowledge could be improved). – – The Food – John Coletta's (Carlucci, Caliterra) menu of Italian small plates is refreshingly different. An in-house salumeria produces cured treats like bresaola, thin slices of seasoned, air-dried beef. Luscious,…

For Tourists

by MLicata at Citysearch

This is on the tourist strip and is full of tourists. It is so loud. The food was average at best. It simply was not a comfortable experience.

  • Cons: Too loud

Not for groups!

by Reviewer1977 at Citysearch

This is not a place to go if you have a large group. We had a reservation for 15 at 6:00 PM. We arrived and waited an hour past our reservation time to be seated. (It was a Wednesday night.) They told us everyone in our party had to be present, and would not seat us, despite having a large enough table open. It would have been easy to take a smaller table away if everyone did not show up (and they could have sold quite a bit of food and alcohol to the table in that time). The food at Quartino is good, but stay away if you're more than 4 people.

  • Pros: Good food and atmosphere
  • Cons: Not good for groups more than 4
5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

Best Italian in a While

by dms34 at Citysearch

My mom and I ate there together, and we both agreed that it was an awesome restaurant. We sat at the bar first and enjoyed a couple drinks. The bartender was awesome. There was a dripping ceiling, which was kind of annoying, but the bartender tried to clean it as well as he could.

The waitress was okay. She wasn't overly nice, but that's maybe preferred. We made our own antipasto tray, which was fun and tasted good. My mom ordered a shrimp and fettucine dish, which came out before my pasta. That was a little annoying. I guess the idea is to share, but I don't like shrimp. So I had to wait for my food. When my pasta arrived, it was very good. Their marinara sauce is excellent.

I would recommend this place to anyone. It has some really good Italian food, good wine list, and fair prices.

  • Pros: Excellent food and drinks
  • Cons: Food comes when it's ready
