Citysearch Editorial Review. When in need of a lively crowd, a good meal and a see-and-be-seen atmosphere, Luxbar is the place to be. Whether it’s the prime location in the heart of the Gold Coast, the young attractive crowd or the coveted sidewalk tables, there’s always a good scene. Upscale bar food (salads, burgers, ribs and chops) round out the menu, and the cocktail list has a variety of specialty drinks, martinis and draft beers. Inside, brass accents and a dark wood furniture makes it a classy take on a neighborhood bar.

Upper-middle crust bar food. I had to pinch myself with force to make sure I wasn’t still asleep and in a medium-threat nightmare. A few short steps from Elm Street, Lux Bar did today as though Freddy battled Jason in the kitchen and the staff attended to their wagers.

One of the greatest things about the Gibson’s management group is reliability. So thorough is their training that it is almost comical to watch as water, bread and appetizers arrive like clockwork in the same order and at the same intervals every time – give or take a few seconds. Items are placed before diners in the same direction: clockwise. Martini-glassed drinks are filled within a half-inch of top which is generous since most restaurateurs long ago discovered a whole inch reduces the drink volume by half. Such foolishness is near unheard-of which is why the sudden deviation from the script at Lux Bar left us scratching our heads – one hour after we were seated.



Luckily, the food was still Lux Bar: upper-middle-class bar food. The Lux Royale with truffle fries was delicious and so was the veggie omelet. But their extremely tardy arrival as well as their incompletion was just strange. Getting food took nearly half an hour and getting water refills took far longer than it did to drink said water. Atypical. The omelet placement was set up with butter and fruit preserves because it comes with toast. No toast ever came. No one found it odd that toast paraphernalia was there sans toast. The burger’s bun was soaked with grease which means that it was sitting on the counter for some time before delivery. Like 15 minutes. If I were less drunk I would have minded. And, of course, the waitress vanished shortly before our first bite only to reappear 10 minutes after our last. An experience that on-script would have taken 30 minutes took 2x. Such surprises are unwelcome given current parking rates.

great place for girls night out. i went to the luxbar for my birthday with my girlfriends and i have to say that it was my first time and certainly not my last. the crowd was live and the service was fast. this is a great place.

Can't wait for THE NEW YEARS BALL at LUXBAR ! ! !. I have some friends in Chicago who have promoted a few lavish parties over the years, and they recently decided to throw a New Years Party at Luxbar. I sure it will be a phenomenal, but having never been to the place, I decided to take my girlfriend there over the weekend and check it out before getting a ticket (and hoping to avoid another disastrous NYE party like my Underground experience last year). Anyway, Luxbar was incredible! Very impressed with the food and service, but even more impressed with the type of crowd it pulled...I swear, every person there was a "10". Bought my tickets first thing this morning, and can't wait to see this place on New Years. From what I gather, black tie, flowing champagne, and a solid crowd of Chicago's finest. Fun Brunch with a great View. We found this little Gem last spring. We were in town for the weekend and it was one of those early spring days when you still need a jacket and light gloves, perfect for long strolls with the one you love. We had been shopping for a little while and were looking for a place for lunch but found this place had a Sunday brunch upstairs. We loved the View of Rush Street and the windows allowed in the light! It was a beautiful morning we were a little early for the rush so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The food was good, not spectacular but it was reasonably priced, $15 and that included Juice and coffee. There was an amazing sampling of pastries too! We recently re-visted and the windows were open so we got to sit out on the veranda for brunch. So fun, so romantic and good all year round, this will be our regular spot for many years to come!

very unpleasant and rude experience. My friend and I had a very unpleasant experienece here. I would try another place in the gold coast such as Gibson's for a nice night out.

Dessert to die for!. Stopped in for some drinks and an appetizer after shopping all day. Everything about this place is good. I really liked the sliders and my wife liked the spring rolls. The best part of our visit was the Chocolate Mousse Pie. This is probably the best dessert I have ever had from any restaurant. The portion was plenty big for 2-4 people. We will return soon just for the dessert.

Decent Bar, not so decent experience.. Attended a New Year's party at Luxbar. After forking over a large amount of money to attend the party, the bar closed much earlier than what was paid for. Lux bar itself has a great atmosphere- there's a great balcony upstairs. The service inside the bar was decent- most of the servers were attentive and seemed to be on top of it. The appetizers were fairly good. However, upon exiting the bar, one of the bouncers was extremely verbally and physically abusive toward a female patron, as well as a male. Highly inappropriate. It's amazing what can ruin a review of an otherwise decent establishment. Overall a very disappointing experience. Definitely won't be returning.

Great hamburgers!. I have eaten at LuxBar a few times now and I have loved everything I have ordered! Their hamburgers are definitely out of this world and the fries that come with it just make for a great meal! I am also a big fan of the cobb salad, all the ingredients are fresh and tasty! This is a fun place to bring your friends to for delicious food and great drinks!

Hip place to hang out and the food is good too!!. This is a very cool spot - expecially on a weekend! Very hip place with lots of good looking people.
