What People Are Saying About IL Mulino

Liked an oversized heirloom cocktail ring, this Italian restaurant--sibling to the original New York outpost--is a statuesque beauty in a sea of bland high rises. With parlor-like rooms fashioned with hutches, crown molding and glistening chandeliers, the old Biggs Mansion gets a new lease on life every night. From the moment napkins are placed into laps, teams of servers attend to every detail. One captain could be filling a wine glass, another plating that perfect serving of garlicky langostino and spinach. Moneyed denizens get pampered with the standards: a signature slow-cooked,…
Not like the original

The one in New York was always so good and cozy yet sophisticated. The portions are too big. Garlic prevails throughout the room and the staff are all too gruff. We also had to wait over a half hour for our reservation.
- Pros: In an old mansion
Best Private Event Ever!
by ChicagoFoodQueen at Citysearch
My best friend had her wedding reception at Il Mulino, and I have never seen anything like it! The classic decor made for the perfect romantic atmosphere. And on top of that, the food was outstanding. We had the lamb, and it was the most succulent lamb I?ve ever had. Everyone who worked there was so nice and accommodating. I highly recommend them!!!
Great little Italian place

I've been to Il Mulino now three or four times. We have not had any problems with the food, nor the service. It is a more relaxed atmosphere, but they start you off with a lot of food immediately after being sat down so you don't starve while making food selections, etc. Their menu is HUGE, and there is a lot to look over. I've brought my parents here last time they came to visit-and my father is so in love with it, we had to go again two nights later. (he's very Italian from long island, and when he finds a restaurant he likes, he talks about it constantly...like an Italian would) At the end of your meal, you are served a complimentary shot of house infused grappa. Very good.
Expect it to be a longer dinner, and expensive. If you like to not be rushed, this is your place. It can be loud at times, but the mansion it is in is quite beautiful, so you have to forgive the acoustics.
- Pros: Great food, good service, unique atmosphere/setting
- Cons: expensive and can be loud
The Details on IL Mulino
Where to Sit:
If possible, avoid being seated next to the bar. While not necessarily loud, conversations between people waiting for a table can be intrusive to diners sitting behind them.
Know Before You Go:
Don't even think of showing up without a reservation. Weekend dining requires two months advance notice, weekdays less.
Save Money:
The "bambini-friendly" Sunday menu allows children under 12 to dine for half price after 4:30pm.
