In Short – This storefront affords condo dwellers and UIC students in the neighborhood other options besides 35-cent wings and burgers, which are staples at nearby sports bars. In the main dining room, lovers of Korean food find teppan grills to grill kalbi at the table. Sushi chefs man the bar in a neighboring room, where they craft sizeable rolls with cute and local names like the Beijing White Tiger, Maxwell Street and Chicago Bulls. Sweethearts are in for a feast with the Love or Dream boats, combination platters of ribs, steak, chicken teriyaki, tempura, fruit and a California roll.

This place rocks!

by caress1016

Despite all the negative reviews I read about Kohan, I have serious doubt that one of them cannot qualify as one of true sushi conneiseurs. The ingredients are extremely fresh and all makizushi are creative: visually pleasing to your eyes and explosively delicious melts in your mouth. If you love makizushi or rolled sushi then you have to eat here. I tried almost all sushi places in Chicago (highly expensive for business entertainments to affordable college student prices), Kohan will definitely take you to the next level of your sushi experience.

If you also like me who loves fresh fish then try nigiri sushi as well. Ask for some daily recommendations to your serving staff. Green tea I had here is better than others and the temperature was just right. If you want to save money then try during lunch hours.

  • Pros: Types of Sushi offering are beyond your imaginations
  • Cons: Decors

I had better

For true foodie and sushi devotee you'll find Kohan's menu to be limited with the basics and lacking inspiration. While there is nothing at all wrong with the food here for something close by and simple to get to well worth a return visit.

Food is ok, too expensive

by southlooper

We just went there for lunch, and the prices for the lunch menu seems to be too high for the typical Japanese food that is served (Bento box, noodles, tempura). Expect to spend about $12-$15 per person, and yes...I am talking about a simple Bento box lunch. Here is something that really bothered me when I got the bill. They charged us $1.50 per person for green tea, which I have never been charged in any other Japanese Restaurant I have been to in Chicago, and I have been to MANY. Will I go there again? Probably not....Why? The food is average, there was a clump of flour found in my tempura brocolli, the price is high, and they charge for green tea even though it is served like tape water in every other Japanese restaurant. Not sure why citysearch has only $ for the price in the overview of the restaurant.

  • Cons: Expensive, don't validate parking, charge for Green Tea
