Editorial Review for J Bar – by Joel Calahan
In Short
Beginning with the velvet ropes outside its Rush Street entrance, everything about this lounge is sleek: low leather couches and cubes provide seating and mirrors on the walls are inlaid with screens streaming abstract videos. The J is tops for 'tinis, offering "deconstructed" versions of traditional cocktails: vodka, vermouth and an olive sucker, for instance. The James Hotel Martini--cosmo for the new millennium--features blue raspberry vodka, elderflower cordial and a raspberry candy-shell on the cocktail glass.

When to GoFrom 7pm to 10pm nightly, appetizers from the hotel's restaurant, David Burke's Primehouse, are available.
ParkingValet parking is steep at $40 a day; guests are better off taking a cab or public transportation.
The ExtrasBottle service excels here, where pampered guests can choose their liquor, mixers and condiments from a menu that features smart choices like old-school mini bottles of Coke, chocolate covered strawberries, and spirits in half bottles.
Where to SitThe tables are in limited quantity, so you'll have to phone in reservations to hold one. There is a one-drink minimum per table.

I went to Jbar with a group of friends on a Friday night after hearing the buzz around town about this place. First we approached with no cover to get in, which was awesome since we had more money to drink now. Immediatley greeted by the manager who made us feel very welcome and introduced us to a Mina, a cocktail server, who took our drink order. Mina was nice enough to give us an open table in her station until some ballers decided to buy the table. Even though I'm not so much into the Euro house music the DJ was playing when we got there, he switched it up with an amazing mix of hip hop, club remixes of some popular top 40 songs and back to house. The music was on fire, people were dancing all over the place, the vibe and energy ran through your body. Awesome start to a very long weekend. Whatever it is those guys responsible for making Jbar happen on a nightly basis, continue to do that. We will be back for sure.
Pros: music and service
Cons: crowded in a small space

Jbar Sunday nights are where it's at. DJ is spinning the house beats and the most beautiful cocktail servers ever. Awesome ambience, great drink specials (I think vodka was like $5 a drink). Cannot go wrong with this place on this night. Crowd was fun, very different from the other nights I've been, but hip, trendy and energetic. If you're out and about on a Sunday night don't overlook Jbar.
Pros: Specials, DJ, NO COVER
Cons: Small
