YOU'VE GOT TO SEE THIS.... So I took a bunch of my guy friends to the steakhouse in The James hotel, while not really planning to make it a long night, the server suggested we check out Jbar next door. They walked us through the back way, which totally impressed my buddies since it was so "Goodfellas", when we got in through the back door the manager met us with a smile & immediately gave us a table next to a hot bunch of girls celebrating a bachelorette party. Once again, totally impressed my friends & had the best time. The "early" night turned into a "3am" night. The Dj played great music (didn't catch his name), all the best tracks mixed in with rock and old school beats. Cristina was our cocktail server and she was awesome (and hot too). Fun night, definetly making Jbar one of my mainstays from now on. I haven't checked it out during the week, but if the weekend says anything about how great this place is, then I'll for sure be back during the week. This is a MUST SEE in the Chicago nightlife scene.
O.K. Bar.
Blah decor and cramped stool sitting atmosphere described jbar. The actual bar area is way too small to sit and socialize, and you are solely reliant on scantily clad waitresses to bring you drinks. The small stools and couches are very low, so it is hard for her to see you when you need another drink. Why anyone would flock to this bar when it is crowded and teeming with people is beyond me. You cannot move, you might trip over an extra low stool.
Maybe this place is for the see and be seen, but I'd rather go somewhere else.
Great new lounge!!!. I met up with friends at J Bar and had a blast! Immediately, valet service greeted me at the door, the bouncer was friendly and even better no cover charge! When I walked in it was already packed at 11:30 PM which means the place is happening! The bartenders were all very nice and continually made sure my drink as well as my friends drinks were always filled! The crowd was just right, late 20 somethings to early 30's with none of the clubby crowd. Music was a plus too!
Great Mojitos Bad Service. Got there when the bar was empty, staff told us that we would have to pay 250 dollars to continue sitting at the table we were at, that was marked "reserved" already rather than "for sale" that it should have been. We moved to a table with no such signs and were not bugged about the 250 until later in the evening....after our waitress snapped at us, we were moved to another waitress' territory. The mojitos are amazing but for any kind of service or comfort except to have to shell out for a table (however tiny).
A contemporary urban vibe sets the tone in this upscale martini lounge in the James Hotel..
In Short
Beginning with the velvet ropes outside its Rush Street entrance, everything about this lounge is sleek: low leather couches and cubes provide seating and mirrors on the walls are inlaid with screens streaming abstract videos. The J is tops for 'tinis, offering "deconstructed" versions of traditional cocktails: vodka, vermouth and an olive sucker, for instance. The James Hotel Martini--cosmo for the new millennium--features blue raspberry vodka, elderflower cordial and a raspberry candy-shell on the cocktail glass.
