I've never written a review for citysearch before, but after the experience I had today with the Catalina Ferries and the Flyer, I felt compelled to. You see, I'd reserved some tickets the other day and then last night I decided to check out reviews of the company on City Search. I found it and read for horrendous reviews. If you've read them, you'll understand that I freaked out and thought I was copletely screwed. I panicked when I read that there was various sorts of human waste scattered about and that they were rude and everything didn't work, etc. But... For all the worrying I did, everything went just fine. We left on time, we arrived on time, the ferry plodded along just fine as ferries do. The staff were nice enough. Things were clean enough. I just sat and rode it and arrived and went about my business in Catalina, then came back. Easy. So, really, it's not as bad as these other reviews make it out to be. Though maybe this was just a particularly lucky day. So if you read those others and start fretting like I did, take a breath and you'll be okay. If you're around the west side and don't want to jam all the way down to Long Beach, this should be fine for you.
Pros: Got me where I needed to be comfortably enough
Cons: It wasn't a winged dolphin

After reading the other reviews, I believe I can top it. On our trip, the excursion left an hour late, with no notice. We boarded, waited, asked to get off for a few minutes. The staff was rude, wouldn't tell us what the delay was, but said we had time to take a walk. We got off and 90 seconds later, they began pulling away. We jumped on board as they were lifting the ramp. Captain and crew do NOT communicate on this vessel. Ok, so fine, we were on our way to Catalina on a beautiful day with smooth seas. Within 2 minutes, as the boat picked up speed, the smell of exhaust overwhelmed the boat. Within 20 minutes, people were nauseous. When they crew was notified, we received shrugged shoulders and a 'what do you want me to do attitude'....this on a boat with mostly elderly passengers. I went to the restroom to try and escape the fumes....what did I find?...vomit on the floors and get this...fecal matter on the ceiling. How on earth would that get there? This restroom had not been cleaned in ages.... After 2 hours and 15 minutes, our ordeal was over and I believe we all survived, though I'm sure the experience took some years off of our life. How they remain in business is anyone's guess...you're better off swimming to Catalina...hmmm...fecal matter on the ceiling...where's CSI when you need them?
Pros: Fecal matter on the bathroom ceilings
Cons: Fecal matter on the bathroom ceilings
