Editorial Review for People Lounge – by Allison Knab
The Scene
Locals out for a casual dinner and troops of women gather at four massive wooden tables near the front of the restaurant, while hand-holding couples dominate small tables in the restaurant's back half. When DJs aren't scheduled, a combination of reggae, bossa nova, Cuban, salsa and flamenco music provides a tame soundtrack.
The Food
Generous portion sizes and reasonable prices add appeal to the typical tapas selections found at this Wicker Park spot, including Spanish tortillas, patatas bravas (spicy potatoes) and chicken skewers. Diners looking for novelty start with the cold citrus- and vodka-cured salmon, which comes with a small salad of mixed greens. Garlicky and tender shrimp arrive hot on a bed of couscous, while a blended dressing of olive oil, anchovies, dill and garlic adds kick to the fried calamari. An apple tart made fresh each day and served with creme anglaise provides a sweet finish.

I have been to several Tapas restaurants before and found People Lounge was average. I did think that the goat cheese peppers were good but not great. I would much rather go somewhere like Iberico or Babareeba...more for your money and tastebuds. Wait staff was exceptional and very friendly. One of the food runners was a little surly but other than that, all staff was wonderful and accomodating.
Pros: Service
Cons: Food

We were seated right away regardless on how super pack this place was on a Saturday night. Great place to people watch and listen to a DJ spin their magic . They had a very good variety of Tapas to choose from . We began with the cheese plate and olives stuffed with garlic , very tasty . For dinner we had the shirt steak, chicken , mussels and scallop tapas . All the dishes were very flavorful and plenty for two people to share . For dessert we had the chocolate cake and the flan . The chocolate cake was a bit dry but the flan was Delicious. Through out the meal we tried a couple different specialty martinis they had to offer . Our favorite was the Peoples French Martini which has champagne in it . They also have white or red Sangria . Very refreshing . This is a great place for a fun date or a night out with friends .
Pros: food , people watching , DJ
Cons: can be very loud
