The Scene
Locals out for a casual dinner and troops of women gather at four massive wooden tables near the front of the restaurant, while hand-holding couples dominate small tables in the restaurant's back half. When DJs aren't scheduled, a combination of reggae, bossa nova, Cuban, salsa and flamenco music provides a tame soundtrack.
The Food
Generous portion sizes and reasonable prices add appeal to the typical tapas selections found at this Wicker Park spot, including Spanish tortillas, patatas bravas (spicy potatoes) and chicken skewers. Diners looking for novelty start with the cold citrus- and vodka-cured salmon, which comes with a small salad of mixed greens. Garlicky and tender shrimp arrive hot on a bed of couscous, while a blended dressing of olive oil, anchovies, dill and garlic adds kick to the fried calamari. An apple tart made fresh each day and served with creme anglaise provides a sweet finish.

This place was perfect for my dining experience. My dinner party of three was a great size to ensure we had the chance to try a lot of food and the bill will not make us salty. people's skirt steak...heavenly calamar frito...very tasty. I enjoy when there are more of the tentacles than the rings. But the taste more than made up for that minor issue. Pollo Diablo. With a name that cool, I was saddened that it appeared so late on the table. I will have to order the diablo again as I will reserve judgment on such a cool name. queso de cabra- O my GOD AMAZING. The bread was fresh, the cheese was to die for. WOW!!!!!! lubina...it was nice but there may be other items that may be better. I'm just saying gambas...So much fun to say!! if you order this item, you should only call the shrimps gambas. It's fun..trust me. O and ordering a pitcher of sangria...good for everyone

This is, by far, the worst Spanish food that I have ever had the misfortune to eat. The food was not fresh and left much to be desired. The paella was watery and had a layer of liquid that was not fully absorbed by the rice. I have lived in Spain, eaten at Spanish restaurants in the U.S. and this was the WORST paella that I have ever tasted. It had cod and it was clear that they had merely placed the cod on top of the dish and that it had not even been cooked with the paella. If you are stuck in Wicker Park, and want Spanish cuisine, do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with this restaurant. Ole Ole in Andersonville has phenomenal Spanish cuisine. I do not recommend that any people with a penchant for Spanish cuisine to dine at People Lounge.

I have been to several Tapas restaurants before and found People Lounge was average. I did think that the goat cheese peppers were good but not great. I would much rather go somewhere like Iberico or Babareeba...more for your money and tastebuds. Wait staff was exceptional and very friendly. One of the food runners was a little surly but other than that, all staff was wonderful and accomodating.
