I think Wakamono has the best sushi in Boystown. Either BYOB or full bar, just order their specialty rolls.

Enjoyed their quaint outside seating and loved their sushi & their happening location on Broadway street.

Great atmosphere, delicious sushi. I had a great time here on Saturday night. Arrived just before 7:00 to an empty restaurant. By the time we finished our sushi, the place was packed, and the adjoining bar/waiting area was packed. We had three different rolls, the Snow White, Wacamono, and Emerald, and loved all three. Also had hamachi nigiri, which practically melted away. I'll definitely be back to this spot for great sushi in a cool atmosphere!

Fantastic Lakeview Sushi!. We had a fantastic experience at Wakamono! The sushi was fresh and delicious and the atmosphere was fun and trendy, if a bit loud. I'm sorry if your five-year-old was not admitted, but I am grateful that the staff has chosen to uphold the adult atmosphere here. This does not mean that they "hate families". It just means that they value retaining their target demographic. There's nothing wrong with that, and quite frankly, as much as I love kids, being seated inches away from someone else's child (the seating is tight) during a night out would be a major drawback. Cute as they are, kids are not welcome everywhere. Call it "animosity" if it makes you feel better, but it doesn't help your case! There are plenty of family-friendly places in Lakeview. If you use a little common sense, people won't be surprised to find children there.

Great sushi in an adult atmosphere!. My boyfriend and I have been a long time fan of ping pong, and love this place too! Despite what the previous reviewer states about kids, I actually like the fact that a restaurant isn't afraid to gently remind parents that kids aren't always welcome. I love kids, but there are times when I want to go out and not have a screaming 5-year-old next to me throwing chop sticks everywhere.

Eat here if you want a trendy, kid-free, scene at a reasonable price!

WAKAMONO HATES KIDS!. FYI to all East Lakeview parents, the Wakamono sushi restaurant recently confronted 2 mothers with their young 5 yrs old daughters and told them in a VERY rude manner that kids aren't welcome at Wakamono. This happened early in the evening too when the place was practically empty and before the moms even looked at the menus! Considering the fact that the Nettelhorst Elementary School is only a half block away from Wakamono, it is ridiculous that Wakamono would take such a family-hostile attitude. One of the mothers who got treated so rudely used to go there all the time on her own but now that they have made it clear that Wakamono hates kids, she's never going back. And neither is everyone I know. Families are a part of the East Lakeview neighborhood like everyone else. And many parents here love going out to all the local restaurants. It is outrageous that Wakamono treats us with such animosity in our own neighborhood, just down the street from our homes and across the street from our schools. There are many great sushi places in Lakeview, there is no need to patronize a place that is so rude, unfriendly, hateful, and hurtful to the families of East Lakeview. Shame on you, Wakamono!

Simply good sushi. Gave this place a try for the first time, and was very impressed, although only through delivery (fast and accurate). Simple menu, followed other user's recommendations and got godzilla roll and unagi nigiri. Very satisfied. Perfect portions, kinda pricey but worth it. I'll definitely order again.

Fresh sushi, good selection. My experience at Wakamono was great. We arrived around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday; the resturant was busy, but no wait. The interior of the restaurant was small and minimalistic. The waitstaff was friendly and the food was delicious. I had a seaweed salad for an appetizer, and it was the best I've ever eaten. They also had some tasty vegetarian rolls. Don't forget to BYOB though!

Great price, quality sushi. Loved the decor! The dining area is very small, so go early if you want your choice of seating. The waitresses were very attentive and gave some good recommendations. We really liked the Peter Parker roll and our favorite was a hot appetizer (ravioli filled with pork and shrimp - sorry, don't remember the name!). Everything was very reasonable (There were no rolls over $12.) and with BYOB, we were very happy with the final bill. We would recommend going here with a small group of friends.

Excellent. Ordered take-out from this restaurant because the "japas" (japanese tapas) were recommended by Timeout Magazine. I'm from Cali so I KNOW good sushi and bad sushi. Good sushi but a little on the expensive side. Of course, I know this is because the fish is flown in fresh daily and doesn't come from 3-eyed fish from The Lake. I was looking for the actual word "japas" on their menu but it's not there. Basically, any of their appetizers are considered japas. I recommend the japas of prosciutto glazed in sweet sauce with asparagus. Had the tofu with toasted peanuts and chili oil because Timeout recognized this as the "Sounds Bad, Tastes Good" food...but it was O.K. Tofu is bland so the chili pretty much overpowers it. Had the "Godzilla Roll" which was great. This may have been sushi via delivery, but the presentation was still nice. Came with free edemame and a vile of soy sauce. I'm single and was going to go to the actual restaurant but, alas, tables only and no actual sushi bar where singles can sit at. (I called and asked.)

Top quality sushi. Best quality sushi and maki I have had in Chicago, perfect portions and flavors and it absolutely melts in your mouth. I often get delivery and it's just as good, you gotta try this place.
