In Short – Owner John DiVenere re-opened this Wrigleyville establishment, frequented by young professionals from the neighborhood, as an homage to his former restaurant in the same location, Red Tomato. Red is a central theme to the lounge's design, from the crimson upholstered booths to the elegant Italian Murano glass lighting, to the specialty cocktails. High-top oak tables and booths are available for seating, and the light menu offers American cuisine--flatbreads, salads, sandwiches.

Horrid establishment and the worst waitstaff I have ever encountered in my life.

by anna1980 at Citysearch

Worst place ever, expensive, unfriendly waitstaff, and horrid bartenders. I came in one day with friends and the bartender didnt even acknowledge us. She kept on talking on her cell phone. After waiting 5 minutes and trying to get her attention, she finally apologized and got us our drinks. Then two ladies walked in, it seemed to be friends of the waitstaff and instead of focusing on us and asking how everything was, the lady talked to them. Not once were we asked how the drinks were, etc. I had a question about something on the menu and was told, the explanations of what is in the food is all written in the menu. Very snippy! After finishing our drinks we left and didn't even get a thanks for coming in. Worst place ever.

A great new bar on Southport!

by luckyace at Citysearch

I initially ventured in to try the drinks at this new bar that opened up on Southport. From the moment I walked in the door, it was a different type of atmosphere. I was greeted at the door by the waitstaff and the bartender is one of the most friendly around, not to mention he can mix some pretty decent martinis. On another note, the food was quite a surprise to me. Not that I expected it to be bad or anything, but I was truly impressed with the menu selection and the quality of the food that is being served. The flatbreads are some of the best around and perhaps the best value on the menu. Overall, if you're looking for a great friendly, trendy bar to just go to and relax while having a few drinks then Redder is definitely your type of place.

The Details on Redder

What to Drink:

The Redder martini, one of the bar's specialty cocktails, is a tart concoction of pomegranate vodka in pomegranate juice.

The Extras:

The late-night snack menu features a selection of mini-appetizers that include garlic dill pickles, mustard pretzel sticks, and mini bleu cheese burgers.

Parking:

Redder is right off the Brown Line Southport stop, making park-n-ride a good idea on weekends when it can be difficult to find a spot in the neighborhood. If you are driving, fill your pockets with quarters; Southport Avenue is notorious for its meter readers. Cabs are plentiful.
